Workshop on Problem-based Learning

27 Jan 2015

Prof L.S. Chan (College Principal) and Dr Loretta Ho (Assistant Professor, Faculty of Education, HKU) held a workshop on problem-based learning on 21 January 2015.  Around 20 teachers participated in the workshop.  The College adopts different kinds of pedagogies to enhance students’ learning in the College.

What is Problem-based Learning?

Problem –based learning (PBL) is a student-centred pedagogy in which students learn about a subject through the experience of problem solving.  It requires students to take an active part in a learning process that starts with a problem statement or problem.  Students are asked to identify what they already know, what they need to know, and how and where to access new information that may lead them to resolve the problem.  During the process, students develop flexible knowledge, effective problem solving skills, self-directed learning, effective collaboration skills and intrinsic motivation.
