His thoughts influenced a number of CEOs, including Winston Churchill, Bill Gates, Rick Warren, Jack Welch, Andrew Grove, Jim Collins, and Ruimin Zhang, CEO of Haier Group. Programme Structure
The Programme consists of three modules:
|
Managerial Effectiveness |
| The module reviews the underlying principles and reasons of personal success and failures encountered in the ever changing society. It is designed to help students to evaluate and apply these in the context of an organization, providing a pivoting effect to the organization’s total performance. The students will be guided to design their own self management plans developing effective habits and strengths. |
|
Leadership Management in Knowledge Economy |
| This module covers managerial roles in a knowledge work based organization and identifies parameters and factors for the highest performance. It invites students to rethink leadership and management in an organization. This module focuses on Drucker’s view of building people beyond their normal capacity. The areas include management practices, organization theory, people skills and team-based environment in the 21st century organizations. The module examines the critical issues in practical aspects focusing on motivation, achievement and contribution, considering the need of knowledge economy. |
|
Management of Innovation and Entrepreneurship |
| This module studies innovation that helps individuals and organizations to discover sources of opportunities in periods of transition. It intends to help students to develop this capacity using Peter F. Drucker’s famous 7 windows of sources of opportunities. Through case study and analysis, students will examine the theory and practice of social innovation (business, environment, education, and human services), process innovation, and product/service innovation. The module corrects the myth that entrepreneurship belongs to small and business organizations. Students will discover the importance of entrepreneurship in the private, public and nonprofit sectors, especially in large organizations. |
There are 36 contact hours for each module. The classes will be conducted in English supplemented with Chinese. Lecture notes and teaching materials will be in English. Classes will be conducted mainly on weekday evenings (usually Fridays) and Saturdays.
Assessment and Award
All assessment will be in English. Students are awarded a Module Certificate upon completion of each module.
