60 Years of Pop, Rock & Musicals

A rocking, singing, dancing celebration of HKU SPACE through its six decades of history from the 1960s to the present day

This year's Concert will be held at the Concert Hall, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre at 8pm on Tuesday, 4 April 2017. This year, the HKU SPACE annual concert has special significance as it celebrates its 60th anniversary since its first students gathered their pencils and notebooks for their first course in 1957.

The concert will be in two halves. The first half will be a trip down memory lane with Hong Kong pop songs from each of the past six decades performed by Raii Tan, Marisa Kwok, Kylis Hung, The Chung Brothers, and the award-winning Hong Kong rock band Supper Moment.

After a break, the concert will continue with an abridged version of the hip young, Tony Award-winning musical Hairspray Jr., performed by singers from the HKU SPACE Community College and directed by our alumni, Michelle Li of Rooftop Productions. The story is set in the 1960s and tells the tale of an alienated young teenager who fulfils her dream as she vies for the Miss Teen Hairspray title. Funny, touching and wonderfully dynamic, the musical tackles issues of race, gender, and discrimination in a positive and uplifting way that is sure to strike a chord with the audience.

The Concert is also a fund-raising event for the HKU SPACE Student Transformation Fund which aims to ease the financial burden of needy students. Two complimentary tickets of the designated zone [first 10 rows from the stage] will be offered to you as a token of thanks for a donation of HK$200 or above. (Please click here for the seating map) Tickets will be given away on a first-come-first-served basis, while stock lasts. <Donation Registration>
