Course Description

We offer this 2-year top-up programme with Edinburgh Napier University, UK. It offers students the opportunity either to enter the financial services industry or, if they already have professional insurance or banking qualifications, to enhance their existing skills and knowledge. HKU SPACE provides face-to-face teaching of 33 hours per module by local tutors, supplemented by revisions of 9 hours per module by UK lecturers. Students will be provided with a comprehensive set of course materials, plus access to Napier's electronic library resources.

Non-Local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance
These are exempted courses under the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance. It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognise any qualification to which these courses may lead.

Duration

  • Students admitted direct or part way through Level 3: 1.5 or 2 - 4 years (normally 2 years). ;
    Students admitted direct to Level 4: 1- 3 years (normally 1 year).

Programme Structure

Students are admitted either at Level 3 or Level 4, depending on their qualifications and experience.

Each level has 6 modules:

  1. There are 3 intakes a year, in July, November and March.
  2. There are 3 semesters a year, with 2 modules each semester.
  3. Assessment is based on coursework and examinations.

Entry Requirements

Direct entry to Level 3 or part way through Level 3*, if you:

  • either, have the Advanced Diploma in Finance/Advanced Diploma in Finance (Investment)* awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE;
  • or, have the Higher Diploma in Business (Financial Services) awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE;
  • or, have the Higher Diploma in Business (Accounting & Financial Planning) awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE;
  • or, have the Advanced Diploma in Management Studies awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE;
  • or, have the Advanced Diploma in Business Management awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE;
  • or, have completed Years 1 and 2 of the Edinburgh Napier University's BA (Hons) Financial Services with satisfactory results;
  • or, have equivalent qualifications.

Direct entry to Level 4 if you:

  • either, are an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, UK;
  • or, are a Senior Associate of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance;
  • or, are an Associate of the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers;
  • or, have the Advanced Professional Diploma in Financial Planning awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE;
  • or, have completed Years 1, 2 and 3 of the Edinburgh Napier University's BA (Hons) Financial Services with satisfactory results;
  • or, have equivalent qualifications.
*These applicants can be considered for halfway through Level 3.

Enrolment Method

1. All applicants are required to complete one APPLICATION and one ENROLMENT Form and either submit them in person or post them to The Programme Leader, BA (Hons) Financial Services, College of Business and Finance, HKU SPACE.

2. All applications, either by post or in person must be accompanied by:

a) Certified photostat copies of full educational certificates and transcripts

b) One crossed cheque for the relevant amount payable to 'HKU SPACE' in respect of the course fee.

c) A separate non-refundable crossed cheque payable to 'HKU SPACE' for $200 in respect of the application processing fee.

d) A separate non-refundable crossed cheque payable to 'HKU SPACE' for HK$1,140 for a HKU Borrower's card, only if you wish to apply for one.

Note: When submitting your application in person at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres, please bring along the originals of your educational certificates / transcripts for certification.  If by post, please arrange to bring the originals of the relevant documents for certification at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres before the commencement of classes.

Payment Method

Course fee can be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to 'HKU SPACE'.  Please specify the programme title for application, student's name and student card number (if applicable).  You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s) together with the appropriate course / application fees in the form of a cheque and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres.
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres, specifying "Course Application" on the envelope.  HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment sent by mail.

Applicants may also pay the course / application fee by VISA or Master Card including "HKU SPACE Master Card" at any HKU SPACE enrolment Centre.
