  • Course Description

    The programme aims to train non-IT students to make effective decision by providing them with Business Intelligence concepts, business knowledge and hands-on experience using decision support software. The three business areas being covered include: Healthcare, Supply Chain Management and Telecommunications.

    Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:

     Critically evaluate the importance of decision support systems and Business Intelligence

    1. Integrate and apply knowledge of score cards, dash boards, KPI and balance score cards in work place
    2. Integrate and apply knowledge of Operations Management in work place
    3. Apply Business Intelligence solution to support decision making
    4. Conduct in-depth analysis by the use of Business Intelligence solutions in their chosen stream

     

    This is a one-year part-time programme consisting of 5 core modules plus 2 modules from one of the specialist streams. Core module includes 24 lecture hours and 1.5-3 hours of closed-book written examination.  Specialist modules includes 24 lecture hours, 24 workshop hours and 3 hours of closed-book written examination.  Total contact hours for the programme are 216 hours.

    The first five modules (modules1-5) are common modules for Supply Chain Management, Healthcare and Telecommunications streams.  Modules 6a and 7a are specialised modules for Supply Chain Management stream. Modules 6b and 7b are specialised modules for Healthcare stream. Modules 6c and 7c are specialised modules for Telecommunications stream.

    During the initial phase of the launch of this programme, the Programme Team decided to focus on the Supply Chain Management stream as it covers the widest range of economic activities such as manufacturing, purchasing, logistics and sales & marketing.  Offering for Healthcare and Telecommunications sectors will be planned in 2011.

  • Entry Requirements

    Applicants shall:

    (a)  hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline awarded by a recognized university or equivalent;

    and

    (b) provide evidence of English proficiency, such as

    (i) Grade E in Use of English in the HKALE;

    (ii) an overall band of 6 with subtest of 5.5 in the IELTS;

    (iii) a score of 550 in the paper-based TOEFL or a score of 213 in the computer-based TOEFL.

     

    Applicants holding a bachelor’s degree from a university in Hong Kong or from a university using English as the medium of teaching can be considered as having satisfied the English proficiency requirement.
