*The first of this kind of accounting program in HK*

 

The programme is designed to meet the needs of the broadening role of accounting technicians to help them better support the finance and accounting professionals in the dynamic business world. It aims to equip students with the accounting skills and business knowledge to become qualified accounting technicians; and prepare them to sit for the Professional Bridging Examination (PBE) of the Hong Kong Institute of Accredited Accounting Technicians (HKIAAT) in order to enter into the Qualification Programme (QP) offered by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) to become qualified CPAs in Hong Kong eventually. 

 

Aims

The programme would prepare students who would like to pursue QP via HKIAAT qualification by enrolling a well-structured award-bearing programme. The programme also aims to enable graduates to receive exemption from the Accounting Technician Examination of the Hong Kong Institute of Accredited Accounting Technicians (HKIAAT). 
 

Awards

To be eligible for the award of Professional Diploma for Accredited Accounting Technicians, students must satisfy all requirements of the programme.

Duration

  • 2.5 years to 3 years

Medium of Instruction

  • English (Supplemented by Cantonese when necessary)

Programme Structure

There are 12 modules, 6 out of 12 modules consist of 36 lecture hours each while the rest modules consist of 40 hours each.  Teaching for each module consists of weekly lectures.

Note 1: Professional Assessment (PA) Workshop, which is optional, is preparing students to undertake the PA test in order to qualify for HKIAAT membership.
 
Note 2: Qualification Program (QP) Workshop, which is optional, is familiarizing students with the format and approach of the QP offered by the HKICPA.

Assessment

Assessment is based on coursework (written assignments, special projects, etc) (30%), final examination (70%), and attendance (at least 70% of the lectures).

Entry Requirements

Applicants shall:
  1. have gained in the HKALE Grade E in 1 AL or 2AS subjects, and HKCEE Level 2 in English Language* or equivalent; or
  2. have gained in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination 5 subjects passed at Level 2, including English Language; or
  3. have gained a degree or associate degree or diploma from a recognized institution; or
  4. be aged 18 or above with 1 year of relevant working experience.
 
Applicants with other qualifications and credentials will be considered on individual merits. 
 
* With effect from 2007, HKU SPACE recognises Grade E previously awarded for English Language (Syllabus B) (Grade C in the case of English Language (Syllabus A) at HKCEE as an acceptable alternative to Level 2 in this subject at HKCEE.

Enrolment Method

Completed application forms should be submitted in person to HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.
 
Applications must be accompanied by:
  • A non-refundable HK$150 application fee (cheque should be crossed and made payable to “HKU SPACE”);
  • Photostat copies of Hong Kong Identity Card;
  • Photocopy of all relevant educational qualifications;
  • Original certificates and transcripts of relevant qualifications, which are needed for certification by HKU SPACE;
  • One passport photograph.
