Course Description
HKU SPACE General English Programme
The SPACE General English Programme consists of multi-level general English courses covering all four language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. There are 6 levels with each of the levels becoming progressively more difficult:
Foundation Course in General English (Intake: January 2013)
Introductory Certificate in General English (Intake: January 2013) or
Introductory Certificate in English Language Skills (Intake: March 2013)
Intermediate Certificate in General English (Intake: January 2013) or
Intermediate Certificate in English Language Skills (Intake: March 2013)
Certificate in General English (Intake: January 2013)
Advanced Certificate in General English (Intake: January 2013)
Diploma in General English (Intake: October 2013)
Apart from the lowest level, each level leads to its own HKU SPACE award. The Foundation Course in General English leads to a Statement of Achievement.
Get admitted to the SPACE General English Programme by:
(1) taking The SPACE English Course Entrance Examination (a 90-minute test which determines the most appropriate level and the best course to take); OR
(2) gaining direct entry by meeting the entry requirements (click the links for details) and identify the right course to apply for.
For applicants with very basic English language proficiency, studying the Essential English course will be extremely helpful before enrolling in the SPACE General English programme.

Entrance Examination Schedules

The SPACE English Entrance Examination is a 90-minute written test. Applicants should be prepared to stay for approximately two hours.

Course Offer
Based on the Entrance Examination results, candidates will be offered a place at an appropriate level in the SPACE General English Programme. Candidates with performance below the level of the Foundation Course in General English may be advised to take the Essential English course before continuing with the six-level General English or other language skills development courses at HKU SPACE.
