A new generation of nursing and health care professionals

Nursing as a profession has a strong focus on the health care of the person, the family, and the community.  It supports and sustains the promotion and maintenance of health.  A generally extended life span, emergence of new diseases, growing awareness of health care and new medical technologies and research, have called for new expectations and expanding needs on the nursing and health care professionals.

In line with the School's tradition in providing excellent quality education, Nursing Studies and Heath Care has been offering a comprehensive choice of award and non award-bearing nursing and health care programmes in the past decade.  We present an innovative learning environment that fosters personal and professional development for nursing and health care.  We strongly believe that the intrinsic qualities of professionalism are made up of knowledge, ethics, competence and responsibility. It is upon these qualities that we design our programmes.

Our programmes
Our award-bearing programmes ranging from certificate, professional certificate, diploma, professional diploma, bachelor and postgraduate levels, fall into different specialisms, such as health service management, renal nursing, family mental health, gastroenterology and endoscopy, oncology and palliative care, psychiatric rehabilitation, enterostomal therapy nursing and health care research etc.  Programmes offered reflect the critical and pressing demands on professional nursing and health care professionals in respective specialties. 

Among the non award-bearing short courses we offer are training in multi skills in elder care, physiotherapy for physiotherapy assistants, clinic operation for clinic assistants and frontline management in health care setting.  These courses are targeted at the general public who are interested and or already working in related services.

Other educational activities
Apart from regular programmes, Nursing Studies and Health Care as a Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Provider, organises educational and professional seminars for specific targeted audiences that lead to accreditation of CNE points to participants.  Academia and practitioners are invited to share update knowledge and invaluable experience in their specialty area with the participants.

Highlight feature
In 2010 the E-learning component was introduced and blended into the conventional teaching mode of the Higher Diploma in Nursing (An Enrolled Nurse to Registered Nurse Conversion) Programme. Students welcome this feature in their learning process for its flexibility and enhanced learning via on-line activities and clinical scenario simulations. We hope that at the end of every programme, not only will our graduates further develop their career in a changing world, they will also become proud members of a new generation of nursing and health care professionals, each contributing in his or her own way to a larger community, one that we embrace to our benefit.
