The programme aims to equip financial industry practitioners, including front line bankers and financial institution personnel as well as second line compliance and operations staff, with a thorough understanding of customers’ business operating models as currently practised in Hong Kong and worldwide. It also covers the introduction of the banking basics, technology, and future trends of financial supply chains development. After completing the programme, students can understand the processes and contemporary issues related to supply chain finance.
 

 Course Content:

1.  Introduction to Supply Chain Finance:

  • What is supply chain finance?
  • Relationship between supply chain finance and physical supply chains (for trading, manufacturing, and service industry)
  • The basics of corporates financial operating model   

2.    Basics of Cash Management:

  • The basics of account receivables, account payables and digital channels offered by traditional banks
  • Implication and application corporates’ treasury process

3.   How Digital Banking and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) Improve Liquidity Visibility

  • Development of digital channels from traditional internet banking, enterprise resource planning (ERP) integration, application programming interfaces (APIs) to platform banking
  • Implication to corporate treasury

4.    International Liquidity Management

  • Management of multi-countries and multi-currency account structure by multinational companies
  • Various liquidity management options, e.g. optimize interest earnings, reduce borrowing cost and free trapped liquidity from restricted markets, etc.

5.     Management of Forex Risk

  • Forex considerations and options for corporates to plan and manage their cross-border trade risks

6.    Competitive Landscape in Bank Providers and New Entries

  • Major global and regional bank providers
  • Landscape of the supply chain finance and the role of FinTech
  • Evaluate unique strengths and benefits to corporates

7.   Emerging Trends and Issues in Supply Chain Finance

  • Latest innovative products
  • Partnership arrangements
  • Stablecoin
  • Potential emergence of new currency medium for international trade

Assessment method: One Group Project Presentation With Written Report + One Individual Written Assignment

Upon successful completion of the programme, students who have passed the continuous assessment and final assessment with attendance no less than 70% will be awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE a Certificate for Module (Supply Chain Finance).

 

On completion of the programme, students should be able to: 

  1. explain the key elements of supply chain finance and their significance in Hong Kong and worldwide;
  2. discuss how multinational companies manage their multi-countries and multi-currency account structure;
  3. critically analyse how the development of digital channels influence the advanced corporate treasury; and
  4. analyse the competitive landscape and evaluate the emerging trends of supply chain finance.

Mr. Mark Li

Mark Li is a seasoned digital transaction banker, with more than 14 years of experience in Fintech, sales and client management; product and digital innovation; partnership and ecosystem development; risk and business management across cash management and trade finance. He has taken various senior leadership roles both locally in Hong Kong and regionally in Asia Pacific, and has been instrumental in developing HSBC’s regional sector strategy in Public Sector, overseeing their Global Standards Program in combatting business risks, running DBS’ shop in digital and pioneering the new product development for HK Fintechs. Mark Is also currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor for HKUST Business School Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management.

Jason

Jason is a serial entrepreneur, tech enthusiast and experienced consultant with over 14 years’ experience in digital transformation, digital sales, customer journey, data analytics, A.I and new services built. He previously worked as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group and PwC, helping C-suite in Greater China Region to drive innovation growth and build the new business from scratch.

Jason has built the tech company Altech (now a tech partner of UA Finance) and had worked on over 30 projects ranging from web applications, e-commerce sites, mobile apps, building real-time systems for government projects and large-scale corporations. Jason is currently the Head of Operation for an EV charge platform, which successfully raised HKD10mn capital to expand the network in the Greater China region.

1. Cash, EPS, WeChat Pay Or Alipay

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque Or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and the applicant’s name.. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying  “Course Application” on the envelope.  HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.

4. Online Payment

Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (course enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, continuing students of award-bearing programmes, if their programmes offer online service, may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay and Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

Notes

  • If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolement Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circustance.
  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque or PPS (for online payment only) will normally be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will normally be reimbursed to the payment cardholder's credit card account.
  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • Receipts will be issued for fees paid but HKU SPACE will not be repsonsible for any loss of receipt sent by mail.
  • For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to "HKU SPACE" to any of our enrolment centres.
