Executive Certificate in Corporate Credit Management aims to equip students with current knowledge and practical skills in managing credit risk of corporations. It covers both quantitative and qualitative analysis in corporate credit valuations including case study analysis.  This course introduces credit analysis based on Cash Flow Based Lending doctrine which is the shift from the use of accrual based accounting information to the use of cash based financial information for lending decisions.

The programme is designed for students who would like to advance themselves to become corporate banking relationship managers or credit officers.  Personnel in corporate finance division would also benefit from understanding how their corporate banking relationship is maintained.

Dr Victor Wai retired from a senior position in corporate credit management from the banking industry. He is enthusiastic in sharing his 26-year corporate banking experience and accepts to teach our course. Students find his interactive teaching and his close guidance through real cases step by step very practical in their own role in corporate credit.

A comprehensive and structured credit training for young bankers dealing with corporate clients.

In the old days, international banks provided comprehensive and structured credit training for new recruits centrally at the headquarters.  This is not the case now due to the escalating costs and competition for human resources after providing such training.  HKU SPACE recognized this trend and worked with Dr. Wai to provide this comprehensive and structured credit training as a professional development opportunity.  New graduates who are interested in entering Corporate Banking or junior bankers who would like to advance to Relationship Management or Credit Management are our targets.  It could also be a refresher course for mid-career bankers.  Personnel in corporate finance division would also benefit from understanding how their corporate banking relationship is maintained.

Credit Analysis on a company is an extremely structured process of examination and assessment.  In today’s corporate finance world, banks all have systematic procedure to decide how much total credit can be given, if it should be given, to a corporate, taking into consideration of credit risk.   This systematic procedure is there to improve credit decisions.  Although not all final decisions are necessarily good, but an organized and structured approach can help raise the quality of credit assessment and compliance.  Nowadays, there are many different methods of analyses and assessments: credit scoring, computer sensitivity models, cash flow analysis, and statistical analysis all give reference to corporate credit worthiness.  Both quantitative and qualitative techniques are required to analyse and interpret credit worthiness.

Tutor

Dr. Victor Wai is an experience tutor in the field of corporate banking credit management. Dr. Wai is a 26 year corporate banking veteran with expertise in credit management analysis.  He spent most of his career with the Bank of America at their Asia regional headquarter covering compliance, risk management and credit auditing in Asia.  Dr. Wai  holds a CPA in Australia and Hong Kong, a DBA from the University of Newcastle, a Master of Banking from Monash University, a MBA from Chinese University of Hong Kong and an Economic degree from the University of Hong Kong.
