This module is an introduction to corporate accounting for non-financial executives.Topics include the theoretical concepts and practices involved in the recognition and subsequent accounting for assets, liabilities, equity, revenues, expenses and preparation of general-purpose financial reports for both single companies and groups of companies.

The College of Business and Finance currently offers a Series of short courses in Business disciplines tailored for Non-Financial Executives.  Each course can be completed within Six weeks.  For details of the Executive short courses, please visit the following webpages:

Student who completed any 1 to 2 Executive short course(s) can apply for Executive Diploma in Financial Decision Making. Exemption fee is required.

 Interpretation of Financial Statements

This module is an introduction to corporate accounting for non-financial executives. Topics include the theoretical concepts and practices involved in the recognition and subsequent accounting for assets, liabilities, equity, revenues, expenses, preparation of general-purpose financial reports for both single companies and groups of companies. Specific topics such as tax-effect accounting, disclosures, revaluation of assets, application and interpretation of financial statement analysis will be covered.

此課程教授非財務行政人員企業會計的理論概念和實踐。課程將使用財務報表作案例研究,教學重點包括資產,負債,權益,收入,費用等概念,如何為個體公司和集團企業編制通用的財務報告。此外,課程也涵蓋特定議題﹕納稅的影響,需披露的資料,資產重估,應用程序和財務報表的分析。

A Statement of Attendance will be issued to students who have achieved 70% of class attendance.
A Statement of Achievement will be issued to students who have achieved 70% of class attendance and achieved a passing grade in the overall assessment.
Statement of Attendance/ Achievement available witin 3 months after completion of the course.

Assessment method: In Class Exercise + One individual assignment

Tutor : 
(1) Ms Isa Kwok

Ms Kwok is a Chartered Management Accountant with over 20 years of post qualification experience in financial, management accounting & tax planning areas. She had substantial financial analysis & management experiences and held management positions in listed/sizeable organizations & government department. She also has 10 years teaching experiences in accounting & management courses in various local tertiary institutions.

(2) Ms Teresa Wong
Ms Wong is a Programme Director in HKU SPACE. She mainly focuses on programme development and external relationship with different professional bodies. She also has over 10 years of teaching experience in accounting, finance and marketing courses in various local tertiary institutions. Prior to joining the education field, Ms. Teresa Wong was the Senior Sales & Marketing Manager in asset management companies. She was responsible for recruitment planning, marketing planning as well as training new staff. She has over 16 years of experience in project management, business operation, delivering training and training programme development. On the Community service aspects, she is the judge of the Best Financial Planner Award (BFPA) for the Life Underwriters Association of Hong Kong.

Applicants shall hold:

  • a bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized University or equivalent; or
  • an Associate Degree/a Higher Diploma or equivalent, and have at least 2 years of work experience; or 
  • a recognized professional qualification.

Applicants with other qualifications and substantial senior level work experience will be considered on individual merits.

Enrollment of this module is based on first-come-first-served basis. Please submit the following documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrollment centres.  For location of enrollment centres, please refer to http://hkuspace.hku.hk/learning-centre.

  2. Copies of academic documents (certificate or official transcript) and / or proof of working experiences

Payment is accepted by Cheque (should be made payable to "HKU SPACE"), Visacard or Mastercard. Cash and EPS is not accepted. Receipt will be issued for course fees upon confirmation of enrollment.
