Welcome to our European Language website.

Our main languages are Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese, but we do also offer courses in other languages such as Arabic, Greek, Latin, Polish, Russian, Swedish, Finnish and Dutch.

Our award-bearing courses, which last 120 hours each, are mostly CEF-certified, with well-developed curricula and assessment systems which cover various aspects of the European languages including reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar and vocabulary. 

Besides, we have shorter courses of just 30 hours, more casual and non-exam based, such as courses for travellers or for beginners, courses in the mornings or during the weekends.

Finally, you can´t miss out on our fun workshops, such as Italian Fashion, Food and Drink, Cooking courses and our several cultural gatherings during the year for each of our main languages!

Our teachers are passionate and committed to the language learning and will guide you through your journey at HKU SPACE!

Students will continue learning French at a more advanced level, learning topics such as shopping, going to restaurants, telling the time, etc. The classroom atmosphere will be relaxed and supportive with practice in small groups using the latest interactive methodology.

This real-time online course is designed to cater for complete beginners who would like to learn the basics of the Russian language and culture in a fast and fun way. If you would like to travel to Russia, you will find it very useful with the course focus on travel phrases and oral communication. Some of the topics include self-introduction, numbers, telling the time, asking for the way, eating out, shopping, booking a hotel room and dealing with communication problems. The students will practise the language in an interactive way, whilst at the same time learning more about the culture of the Russian-speaking world. The course takes place via Zoom.

This course continues on from our series Beginners' Swedish and Intermediate Swedish 1. It is designed for students who already possess a basic knowledge of the Swedish language (written and spoken) and wish to continue their learning. Students will learn more aspects of Swedish culture and will practise the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. They will study the use of adjectives, “vilken” in questions and exclamation, and reflexive possessive pronouns, covering topics such as shopping and work. There will be a relaxed and supportive learning environment, and the course is not exam-based.

This course prepares students who are going to take the international French examination “Test de Connaissance du Français” (TCF) and aim at attaining the level A1. On the one hand, students will be more familiar with the format of the assessments which cover three compulsory sections, including:
- listening comprehension (Compréhension orale);
- mastery of language structure (Maîtrise des structures de la langue) and;
- reading comprehension (Compréhension écrite).

On the other hand, students can strengthen their confidence by attempting some sample questions which are carefully selected for the target level. Although speaking is not tested in the compulsory sections, interactive activities which involve speaking will be included in the training to help consolidate students’ learning.

This course continues on from Beginners' Swedish 2 and is designed for beginners who already possess a basic knowledge of Swedish and want to continue their learning. Students will move into an A1.2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and practise the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. They will learn to use the structures of Preteritum (Past form) and Futurum (future form), personal pronouns (subjects and objects), how to talk about plans on phone, etc. Students will gain more exposure to the Swedish culture in a relaxed and supportive learning environment, and the course is not exam-based.

This course is designed to cater for complete beginners of the Hebrew language, corresponding to the initial stage of the level “Aleph” (A1). The course will offer students a first taste of Hebrew, focusing on oral communication, basic grammar and lexicon. The students will practise the language in an interactive class environment, whilst at the same time learning a little about Israeli and Jewish culture. The course is not exam-based.

  • Modern Hebrew is the language of Israel, one of the world’s fastest-growing high-tech economies;
  • Hebrew gives you firsthand access to early Jewish thoughts and literature, which play an influential role in history;
  • Learning Hebrew can deepen your understanding of the Old Testament and Christianity, which is the most widely practiced religion in the world;
  • Hebrew is to a large extent a phonetic language mostly based on a simple three-letter root system which can help you learn the word formation more easily.
