This two-module programme is designed to provide health care professionals with basic knowledge of scientific research methodology in quantitative and qualitative approaches so that they are able to evaluate and apply research findings in clinical practice appropriately.

Evidence based practice is widely accepted in health care setting in Hong Kong.  In fact, research and evidence based practice are closely related. All health care professionals have the responsibility to be actively involved in conducting research and / or applying research findings that shape health care delivery.  Applied research is carried out to evaluate the outcome of an existing practice or a policy initiative, such as the effectiveness of a clinical, nursing intervention, and to test the theories which are derived from more general sociological, psychological or economic models.

The aims of this programme are 1) to provide health care professionals the fundamentals of scientific research methodology; 2) to develop their ability to conduct critical appraisal on selected and relevant international and local research articles; and 3) to foster interest and enthusiasm for conducting health care research and implementing the outcomes of research findings effectively.
