This Training Workshop on Advanced Practice in Midwifery aims to provide participants with the knowledge of current practice and information about obstetric care in areas such as common obstetric problems and medical-legal issues in child birth. It is designed for practicing Registered Midwives, Registered Nurses (General), Enrolled Nurses (General) and Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners.

Learning Outcome

Upon completion of this training workshop, participants should be able to:

1. Describe current information on obstetrics, antenatal, postnatal and neonatal care;
2. Explain medical-legal issues related to child birth;
3. Apply the latest practical skills and problem-solving skills in midwifery practice; and
4. Apply the skills in relation to their professional practice.

Programme Details

Topics include:

1. New approach in Antenatal Care  (1 hour)
2. Latest development on Prenatal Diagnosis  (1 hour) 
3. Case sharing on handling complicated obstetric cases (2 hours) 
4. Update on Obstetric Emergency and Maternal Resuscitation (2 hours) 
5. Medical-legal Issues in Child birth  (2 hours)
6. Application of Chinese Medicine in Obstetrics (2 hours)

Participants must be:

1. Registered Midwives, Registered Nurses (General), or
2. Enrolled Nurses (General) with 5 years' experience or above in Hospital/ Community Obstetric Care setting, or
3. Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners who are interested in Obstetric Care

Continuing Professional Development (PEM/ CNE Point):

1. 10 PEM points [For Registered Midwives] or
2. 10 CNE points [For Registered Nurses (General) and Enrolled Nurses (General)]

1 PEM/CNE point for one contact hour

1. Complete the Application for Enrolment Form (SF26) which can be obtained at any of HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres or downloaded from

2. Submit the Application for Enrolment Form (SF26) and a copy of registration

  document   (Registered Midwife / Registered Nurse (General) / Enrolled Nurse (General))

3.  Make payment by cash or by crossed cheque or bank draft payable to

“HKU SPACE” in person at any of HKU SPACE Enrolment Counters or by post to Nursing Studies and Health Care, HKU SPACE, 13/F, Fortress Tower, 250 King’s Road, North Point, Hong Kong. ( Attention: Ms Alice Yuen )

Notes

  1. For general and short courses, applicants may be required to pay the course fee in cash or by EPS, Visa or MasterCard if the course is to start shortly.

  2. Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, cheque or PPS (for online payment only) will normally be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will normally be reimbursed to the payment cardholder’s credit card account.

  3. In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  4. Fees and places on courses cannot be transferred from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on approved transfers.
  5. Receipts will be issued for fees paid but HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of receipt sent by mail.
  6. For additional copies of receipts, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope with a completed form and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to ‘HKU SPACE’. Such copies will only normally be issued at the end of a course.
