Welcome to enroll our coming module – Business Investment Decision for Non-Financial Executives! Our experienced teacher, Dr. Choy, will share with you the essential concepts and financial techniques to make business investment decision practically.

This module is tailored for non-financial executives as an introduction to the concepts of financing and investment decisions. Key topics include Introduction to Financial Statement and Ratios, Time Value of Money, Discounted Cash Flow, Valuation of Bonds, Valuation of Stocks, Capital Budgeting, Risk and Return, and Portfolio Theory.

The College of Business and Finance currently offers a Series of short courses in Business disciplines tailored for Non-Financial Executives.  Each course can be completed within four to six weeks.  For details of the Executive short courses, please visit the following webpages:

Student who completed any 1 to 2 Executive short course(s) can articulate to Executive Diploma in Financial Decision Making with possible exemption(s). Exemption fee is required.

Suggested Prerequisite
Students who do not have relevant work experience in related industry are strongly recommended to enroll the following modules in sequence. The prerequisite module will provide foundation knowledge and prepare for students in pursuing the subsequent module.

A Statement of Attendance will be issued to students who have achieved 70% of class attendance.
A Statement of Achievement will be issued to students who have achieved 70% of class attendance and achieved a passing grade in the overall assessment.

Tutor: Dr. Choy has extensive experiences from commercial sectors, financial institutions, and tertiary education.  She has performed several roles in the financial services industry over 10 years’ experiences ranging from financial adviser, investment consulting service to wealth management.  She joined as a Lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and taught in Corporate Finance, Investment and Risk Management, Tax and Estate Planning, and Hong Kong’s Legal and Regulatory Framework over 7 years.  Dr. Choy received her academic and professional education from Hong Kong and Australia.  She was awarded Doctor of Juridical Science (CityU JSD), MSc Global Business (CUHK), MA International Communication (Macquarie Uni), BA (Hons) Business Studies (PolyU).  She also enrolled at “Duke-HKU Asia-America Institute in Transnational law” program for financial derivatives and international debt finance.  Her articles were published in the textbook of “Corporate Finance Foundations: 15th Global Edition”, McGraw-Hill Education, UK.  She is the members at CIArb, HKIoD, HKIRA, HKSI, and HKIoB.

Applicants shall hold:

  • bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized University or equivalent; or
  • an Associate Degree/a Higher Diploma or equivalent, and have at least 2 years of work experience; or 
  • a recognized professional qualification.

Applicants with other qualifications and substantial senior level work experience will be considered on individual merits.

Enrolment Method

Enrolment of this module is based on first-come-first-served basis. Please submit the following documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres.  For location of enrolment centres, please refer to

  2. Copies of academic documents (certificate or official transcript) and / or proof of working experiences for non-degree holders
  3. A HKID card copy
  4. Course fee of HKD3,800 (by cheque or credit card - visa or master card)

Payment are accepted by Cheque (should be made payable to "HKU SPACE"), Visacard or Mastercard. Cash or EPS is not accepted. Receipt will be issued for course fees upon confirmation of enrolment.
