English Non-stop is a new course for students who want to improve their present level of English through continuous study rather than by taking a fixed-length course. The course runs all year round with short breaks and enrolment is available at any time. Applicants can choose to sign up for 10, 20, 30 or 40 weeks’ study.

This is a General English course aimed at upper intermediate and advanced students*.  The non-stop format allows a more thorough coverage of grammar than that found on fixed-length courses, while continuous attention is given to enlarging vocabulary and improving pronunciation. There is extensive practice in the four skills of speaking, writing, listening and reading, and individual needs and preferences are met by allowing students to undertake project work in the skills areas of their choice. For this, they receive detailed feedback.

Supplementary online materials for self-study are provided every week. You access these via SOUL, HKU SPACE’s online learning platform.

*  English Non-stop for elementary and lower intermediate students is planned for the near future.

Flexible length

You choose how many hours you want to study for. The minimum is 10 lessons (30 hours) and the maximum is 40 lessons (120 hours) in the same school year (November 2017 – October 2018). This allows you to organise your studies around your work or holiday schedule. If you need to travel or have a busy period at work, you can take a short break and re-join the course when you are ready.

Make-up lessons

When you enrol for English Non-stop, you pay for a number of lessons that you need to take within a fixed period of time. For example, if you enrol for 10 lessons, you have 15 weeks (from your first lesson) in which to take them. This means that if you miss a lesson, you can make it up the following week.

Comprehensive General English syllabus

English Non-stop is a General English course covering grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. It is intended for students at upper intermediate to advanced levels.

Choose the focus of your studies

Students’ needs are different: some want to focus on writing while others wish to improve oral skills. In English Non-stop, you have the freedom to do extra work (such as personal projects) in the skills area of your choice.

Flexible assessments reflecting personal needs

There is no fixed schedule of assessments in English Non-stop and no 'pass' or 'fail'. Instead, we recognize that every student has their own pace of study. You choose when to take assignments and the kind of assignments you take. This way, you do the assignments that are useful for you when you are ready to do them.

Learner Profile

When you have studied for at least 30 hours, you can request a personal Learner Profile. Your Learner Profile will be of value to employers, academic institutions and others who need a clear idea of your level of English.

Instructors of the course are drawn from our panel of qualified and experienced English language teachers. Some of them are native speakers; others are local teachers with native speaker competence.
