Welcome to enroll our coming module – Business Investment Decision for Non-Financial Executives! Our experienced teacher, Dr. Choy, will share with you the essential concepts and financial techniques to make business investment decision practically.

This programme adopts case studies to provide non-financial executives with real life examples on the fundamentals of and practical skillsets in business finance and corporate accounting. This programme consists of four modules: two finance modules and two corporate accounting modules. Students can complete an executive diploma in a minimum of six months.

HKU SPACE designs a series of executive education programmes for non-finance background individuals who are seeking for a competitive edge within a dynamic business environment. Throughout the programme, executives will be able to gain a cutting-edge knowledge with practical skill sets in finance and other respective business disciplines.

The Executive Diploma in Financial Decision Making programme aims to provide non-financial executives with fundamental concepts of corporate finance and corporate accounting. Students will explore to issues and practical strategies of financial management, business strategies and internal controls.

Program Highlights

  • Enhance analytical skills for financial decision-making situation;
  • Strengthen understanding of underlying corporate finance principles;
  • Build confidence in interpreting financial statements;
  • Apply cost analysis for internal controls.
  • The Executive Diploma in Financial Decision Making award will be conferred to candidates who have attained pass grades in all four modules and achieved at least 70% attendance of the programme.
  • Students who have completed Interpretation of Financial Statements or Performance Management and Internal Control, and Business Investment Decisions for Non-Financial Executives  are eligible to apply for the Executive Certificate in Financial Decision Making as an Exit Award.
  • Students who have completed individual modules other than the above options will only be given a Notification of Result (condition apply). 
  • Upon completion of an Executive Diploma, graduates may choose to articulate to other programmes, conditions apply:
    1. Executive Diploma in Investment Banking (Business Valuation & Financing module exemption)
    2. Executive Diploma in Merger and Acquisition (Business Valuation & Financing module exemption)
    3. Edinburgh Napier University, MSc International Banking and Finance (Financial Management module exemption)

Tutor: Dr. Choy has extensive experiences from commercial sectors, financial institutions, and tertiary education.  She has performed several roles in the financial services industry over 10 years’ experiences ranging from financial adviser, investment consulting service to wealth management.  She joined as a Lecturer at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and taught in Corporate Finance, Investment and Risk Management, Tax and Estate Planning, and Hong Kong’s Legal and Regulatory Framework over 7 years.  Dr. Choy received her academic and professional education from Hong Kong and Australia.  She was awarded Doctor of Juridical Science (CityU JSD), MSc Global Business (CUHK), MA International Communication (Macquarie Uni), BA (Hons) Business Studies (PolyU).  She also enrolled at “Duke-HKU Asia-America Institute in Transnational law” program for financial derivatives and international debt finance.  Her articles were published in the textbook of “Corporate Finance Foundations: 15th Global Edition”, McGraw-Hill Education, UK.  She is the members at CIArb, HKIoD, HKIRA, HKSI, and HKIoB.

She has over 15 years of experience in capital market origination. Prior to her role as head of Equity-linked solution at Standard Chartered Bank, Ms. Yeung also worked at Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch and ING Bank. Ms. Yeung has extensive experience advising corporate clients on the finanical impact from different corporate capital structure.

Tutor: Mr. Lam is a practising CPA, Certified Tax Adviser, member of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, ACCA and The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong, with over 20 years of professional and commercial experience in providing auditing, accounting and tax advisory services to local and foreign companies.

Applicants shall hold:

  • a bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline(s) awarded by a recognized university; or
  • relevant and recognized professional qualifications in related business area; and have at least 3 years of work experience in the relevant industry. Or
  • an Associate Degree/Higher Diploma or equivalent with at least 6 years of senior level work experience in the relevant industry is required.

Applicants with other qualifications and substantial senior level work experience will be considered on individual merits.

  • Upon completion of the Executive Diploma in Financial Decision Making, graduates are eligible to apply for maximum 4 papers of exemptions from Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA)'s certificate and operational level.
