This 18-hour course is designed for students interested in films and documentaries but not limited to those; videos will be drawn from a wide pool of material to suit every taste. This is an amazing chance to immerse yourselves in an English-speaking environment and improve your listening, speaking, pronunciation and vocabulary through appreciating different genres, and discussing plots and characters.

The uniqueness of this course is that students learn or improve their English in creative ways.

Instead of using coursebooks, the resources for this short course are taken or extracted from a variety of selected video or audio clips to suit different tastes.  Using films as a platform, the teacher makes use of motion pictures, basing on which he creates an English immersion environment, interacts with his students, facilitates students in grasping every single opportunity for them to practise speaking, listening, viewing and presenting in English.

Through viewing and appreciating films in class and at home, students broaden their exposure to world Englishes, understand social issues, widen their vocabulary related to the weekly topics/themes, take part in group discussions, train their critical thinking skills, learn how to present their ideas, act out the film characters, write the story or even direct the film.  The ultimate aim of the course is to help students develop the internal motives to practise their English language skills (listening, speaking, pronunciation and vocabulary), so that they are independent language learners.
