This programme allows potential leaders an opportunity to seek professional knowledge in the field of public order management, in particular for those whose first degree is not related to their profession. The programme specifically aims at providing both frontline practitioners and junior managers in law enforcement agencies or other service-related personnel working in the field of order maintenance and offender management with professional knowledge and skills in early identification and handling of vulnerable individuals and groups in the community, leadership in crisis management and analysis of current issues in law and order maintenance.

The programme aims to provide students with an academic programme of professional quality that enhances their knowledge and experience (and potential application) to managing critical factors appertaining to the enhancement of public order. Special emphasis is placed on advancing leadership potentials in the understanding and handling of high risk situation within the context of Hong Kong. The programme enriches students' personal attributes emphasizing not only academic knowledge acquisition, but also leadership and practice skills in the criminal justice field.

The specialism stream in Policing specifically aims to provide advanced training for practicing police officers to equip them with the professional competence to manage rising public expectations in policing work. Students will be coached to acquire advanced practice knowledge and skills in the understanding of complex contemporary issues and the handling of critical situations pertaining to policing.

The programme will include THREE core modules and TWO specialism modules as follows:

Though not encouraged to do so, students can opt to exit the programme at certificate level with satisfatory completion of the three core modules. These students will be awarded with the Postgraduate Certificate in Public Order Studies. However, this exit award will not be granted to students planning to complete the entire Postgraduate Diploma programme.

Graduates of the programme may apply for taught-master programmes or research-based postgraduate programmes such as MPhil and PhD. A master programme through work based studies is under planning with Middlesex University, UK.

  • Saturday, 9:30am - 5:30pm

Applicants shall:

a) hold a bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized institution;

AND

b) provide evidence of English proficiency (if the degree or equivalent qualification is from an institution where the language of teaching and assessment is not English) such as one of the following:

i. an overall band of 6.0 or above with no subtests lower than 5.5 in the IELTS; or
ii. a score of 550 or above in the paper-based TOEFL, or a score of 213 or above in the computer-based TOEFL, or a score of 80 or above in the internet-based TOEFL; or
iii. HKALE Use of English at Grade E or above; or
iv. equivalent qualifications.

AND

c) 2-year working experience in related fields.

Applicants with other qualifications will be considered on individual merit.
