As summer heads into Autumn, there is always a sense of new endeavour in the air. A desire to try new things. And each year our new Autumn Prospectus only adds to the feeling. What new things can I learn? Where should I be looking to improve? This year is no different. And while our mainstream courses will continue, we are also emphasising four new areas of learning which we feel will be increasingly important in the future. We have dubbed them our ABCD programmes.
Take to the skies
Our first programme comes under A for aviation. Hong Kong is one of Asia’s key aviation hubs. Over 70 million passengers used our airport last year and a third runway is already on the horizon. The business and career prospects in the aviation industry look rosy indeed. For this reason, we have introduced a new Certificate in Airport Services and Operations course to help provide career opportunities in this burgeoning industry.
Build new opportunities
B stands for Building and Construction. This is a cornerstone of Hong Kong’s prosperity, and is certainly going to continue, but with new twists. In addition to completely new projects, we are also seeing vast revitalisation programmes as entire areas of the city are upgraded and enhanced, and a new emphasis on maintaining our heritage and improving living conditions at all levels. This year we have introduced new courses in Land Administration and Development in New Territories, a Diploma in Surveying and a course in Architectural Engineering and the Guide to Application for Licences. We even have an architectural study tour to North Korea.
Care for each other
C is for caring. We are specifically thinking of health care, social services and the care of the elderly. As our population ages, the demand for caring expertise is rising, and will become critical in the years to come. We have stepped in with a number of courses such as our Foundation Certificate in Nutrition and Dietary Management for Older Adults, a Postgraduate Diploma in Perioperative Nursing, and a Foundation Certificate in Dementia Care Training. A vibrant society is also a healthy one, and preventative care is the key to this. So we have also introduced an important course in Use of Herbal in Health Maintenance.
Dial up data
The fourth in our ABCD list is D for Data and Digital Sciences. Our society is more and more dependent on skills in these areas, and demand is increasing across the board from finance, to marketing, and every aspect of commerce and public service. From Data Analysis to the Internet of Things this is where the future lies and Hong Kong cannot afford to fall behind. We are helping to provide career and learning opportunities with new courses in Advanced Diploma in Big Data Analytics and Applications: Big Data and Machine Learning in Real Life Applications - An Understanding: an Executive Certificate in Accounting and Finance Leadership in the New Digital Age: and an Executive Certificate in Internet Finance.

2017秋季課程手冊，為你打造個人空間
炎夏過後轉眼入秋，一年已過半，新年時訂下的目標，若還未付諸行動，剛出版的秋季課程手冊可能會為大家帶來一些啟發，除了恆常的課程外，學院將推出更多「ABCD」四大範疇的課程。
Aviation 航空學
香港為亞洲主要的航空中轉站，機場去年的使用人次高達7,000萬，隨著第三條機場跑道落實，航空界的就業前景相當明朗。學院今年推出全新的機場服務及營運證書課程，讓學員能在這發展迅速的行業裡展翅高飛。
Building and Construction 建築及建造工業
建造業作為香港邁向繁榮的其中一項重要根基，在將來亦會繼續扮演主要的角色，但隨時代改變，行業出現了更廣闊的發展，包括重建、近期大力推廣的保育運動和提升居住環境的需求。學院亦為此特別推出新界區土地政策及發展的測量學文憑和建築工程與牌照申請課程，另外更將舉辦北韓的建築學遊學團。
Caring 護理學
現今醫療、社區服務和長者服務均為城中議題，隨著人口老化，護理人才需求大增，未來數年行業將面臨重大挑戰。學院經已開授相關課程如：長者營養及膳食管理基礎證書、手術室護理深造文憑、認知障礙症照顧培訓基礎證書等。面對老化問題，養生亦成為熱門話題，學院舉辦各類中醫課程如中藥藥膳養生，讓大家養生強身。
Data and Digital Science 數據及數碼
社會上不同行業越來越依賴這方面的技能，由金融業到市場學，以至商業和公共服務，統統都講求數據。從數據分析到物聯網，盡是未來世界的發展趨勢，香港亦不能落於人後。學院現開辦 Advanced Diploma in Big Data Analytics and Applications: Big Data and Machine Learning in Real Life Applications - An Understanding、行政人員證書《新數碼時代財會領袖》、Executive Certificate in Internet Finance等課程，讓大家趕上大數據潮流。
