Start anew for a brighter future
As DSE results release day approaches, many students may be worrying about their prospects of getting into their desired universities. But even if things don’t turn out quite as well as you hoped, don’t be disheartened. There are plenty of alternative pathways for you to reach your goal. For example, the Associate Degree and Higher Diploma Programmes at the HKU SPACE Community College (CC) allow students to start again, explore new interests, and continue pursuing their university dreams.
Fai, who has a passion for making videos, was disappointed with his DSE results. So, he decided to pursue his interest in video and enrolled in the Associate of Arts in Media, Culture, and Creative Studies at the CC. He believed that identifying his strengths and taking a proactive learning approach would help accelerate his progress towards his dream. He eventually graduated with an outstanding GPA and was admitted to the Bachelor of Arts in Global Creative Industries programme at HKU!
Fifi is another example of getting back on track to achieve her dream. Despite facing a setback in the DSE, she remained determined to become a Korean translator. Fifi decided to work part-time and return to campus to pursue her dream. She enrolled in the Associate of Arts in Language and Humanities (Korean Studies) and was eventually admitted to CityU's Bachelor of Arts in Translation and Interpretation. She described these two years as a game-like challenge, and despite the difficulties, her dream came true, making her feel that everything was worth it!
The CC also provides a wide range of extracurricular activities for students like Maurice to broaden their horizons beyond the classroom. He participated in the Student Ambassador Scheme and Mentorship programme which allowed him to expand his social circle and gain new perspectives! Last year, over two thirds of students who progressed to full-time degree studies were admitted to UGC-funded universities*, while nearly one third of Associate Degree graduates and students were admitted to HKU, CUHK or HKUST. Candidates are welcome to join any of our admission days online or in person from 19 to 21 July.
