Applied Learning: Articulation pathways for further studies and work |

Applied Learning is an integral part of the senior secondary curriculum. It is introduced to Secondary 5 and 6 to cater to the diverse learning needs of students. Applied Learning focuses on developing the interests of students and assists them in understanding their aspirations for lifelong learning and in their career pursuits. |
|

Applied Learning emphasises the linking of practical learning with broad professional and vocational fields so as to develop their generic skills, interpersonal relationship, values and attitudes, and to assist them in understanding different workplace requirements, allowing them to learn through application and implementation related theories and concepts, as well as vocational knowledge and skill. |

The results of Applied Learning course will be recorded in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) certificate as “Attained” and “Attained with Distinction”. Students attaining the results of “Attained” and “Attained with Distinction” are accepted as attaining the competencies required at HKDSE Level 2 and Level 3 or above respectively. Through these courses, students could obtain “one certificate, several diplomas” to pave way for future learning and career aspirations. |

The School provides students with the option of enrolling in Applied Learning courses offered beyond the schools they attend. In the 2013-15 cohort, such courses include medical science and health care, civil and mechanical engineering, engineering and production, and service engineering courses etc.

Medical Laboratory Science |
|
The course aims to provide students with a systematic understanding about the key theories and concepts of medical laboratory science in order for them to grasp fundamental scientific knowledge and skills, and to apply such scientific principles in disease diagnosis and health monitoring.
After completing the subject, graduates may further their studies in the fields of biological science, nutritional science, biomedical science, environmental science, pharmaceutical science, health care product management and nursing studies, etc.; or to seek employment in the fields of medical, food, environment, microbiology, or work as an assistant technician in pharmaceutical testing laboratories or sales executives for medical and laboratory equipment, etc. |

Foundation in Chinese Medicine |
|
This course covers the basic knowledge and concepts of Chinese Medicine, as well as its application in daily living. Students are provided with the opportunities to understand the developments in the profession and to explore their future aspirations.
Upon completion of the subject, students can further studies in courses related to Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine dispensing, and nutritional studies in Chinese medicine. They can also pursue career in fields such as Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine pharmaceutics, or retail, research, quality control or sales in Chinese medicines and related health products. |

This course emphasises the knowledge and skills required for aircraft pilots, aircraft maintenance, aviation services and air cargo and helps students understand the reality and prospects of the aviation industry.
Students who complete the subject can choose to study related courses in aviation management, engineering, tourism, logistics, etc.; or to join the industry related to aircraft pilot, aviation management and operation, engineering, aviation services and air cargo and logistics, etc. |

Mobile and Online Apps Development |
|
This course provides the basic knowledge and skills related to mobile and online apps development, including mobile system design, application implementation and testing etc. Students can further studies in computer science, computing and information system, information technology etc.; or choose jobs related to the development of apps including working as an application developer or a web developer etc. |

Environmental Engineering |
|
This course aims to promote the concept and develop the knowledge of sustainable development of environment to students through the application of science and engineering principles in tackling environmental related problems. The course covers knowledge of environmental resources management and environmental impact assessment, as well as discussion of local and international infrastructure projects.
After completion of the subject, students can articulate to courses related to environmental engineering, engineering, science, geography, etc.; or find work in government or non-governmental conservation organisations, such as working as environmental technicians and assistant environmental engineers etc. |
