Dr Jane Thomas

After graduating from London University, BSc (Hons) in Nutrition and Postgraduate Dietetic Training in Canada, Jane completed a thesis at Nottingham University exploring adolescents’ eating habits and factors influencing food choice. Following a period as Research Officer at the Health Education Coucil she took up appointments in Nutrition and Dietetics at Queen Elizabeth College and King’s College London –finally as Director of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Dietetic programmes. Her research interests include behaviour change in the context of health promotion and migration. Jane has been involved in research and educational projects in a number of countries including Malawi, Sierra Leone, Ghana, India and Pakistan- and Hong Kong. Jane is a Fellow of the British Dietetic Association and former Editor of the Journalof Human Nutrition & Dietetics.

This public lecture will consider the challenge  for public health nutrition interventions which arise from changes in patterns of health and disease; changes in the food environment and lifestyle; changes in communication and ideas about behaviour change. What are the implications for preparing nutritionists and dietitians to work in Public Health?
