The English Language Enrichment course is non-credit bearing. The course provides students with practice in English usage and skills-building at CEFR A2-B1 level through student-centred and graded learning activities such as speaking, writing, reading and listening to a variety of semi-authentic English texts.

All classes will be activity-focused with student-centered interactions. Students are expected to acquire the knowledge and skills of communicating in English through:

student-centered language activities
grammar revisits
text analyses
individual, pair and group practices
role plays
oral presentations

This course prepares CC students to:

cope with the language required for their academic pursuit
master the generic elements
develop the necessary English language skills for unleashing their potentials
build a solid foundation for future studies and employment.

Participation in the English Enrichment course helps students in their academic advancement and career embarkation.

This 45-hour exam preparation course is designed for students who seek higher International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test scores for admission to overseas universities. The course is non-credit bearing and aims to help students who want to be better prepared and be equipped with the necessary test skills and practices for performing at the IELTS Tests. In addition to a thorough understanding of the test and development of test-taking strategies and skills, the course provides students with valuable practice in key grammar and vocabulary for success in the two writing tasks and good chance to complete relevant written class/home assignments and obtain feedback from the teacher for language improvement.

During the course, students will:

acquire a thorough knowledge of the structure and requirements of the IELTS test
get timed practice in every section of the test
gain speed reading strategies to enable you to cope with the challenging reading test
learn how to avoid common mistakes when answering reading and listening comprehension questions
review key language for the two writing tasks
have a clear idea of their strengths and weaknesses in all four skills so that you can focus their studies

A good IELTS score can help students:

get a place on a university course in Hong Kong, the UK and in many other countries
apply for jobs with leading employers
demonstrate your level of English to your employers
apply to emigrate to English-speaking countries
