University of London and HKU SPACE

Photo

  • The partnership between the University of London and HKU SPACE (formerly the Department of Extra Mural Studies – DEMS) is a longstanding one. From its outset, over 60 years ago, DEMS offered preparatory Law courses for the LLB degree. In the 1980s, responding to community demand, HKU SPACE expanded its teaching provision to include also the Accounting, Banking, Business, Economics, Finance and Management programmes (Lead College: London School of Economics and Political Science). This was followed by the BSc in Computing and Information Systems (Lead College: Goldsmiths). We have also collaborated with the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and Royal Holloway (RHUL). Programmes are fully managed by both academic and administrative staff.

  • In addition to providing preparatory courses, HKU SPACE also has a longstanding administrative arrangement with the University of London. This means that HKU SPACE acts as an Admissions Centre for the University of London and receives and processes applications. Those who fulfill University admission criteria may receive their Letters of Eligibility directly from HKU SPACE on London's behalf.

  • As part of its 150th Anniversary celebrations in 2008, the University of London International Programmes made special awards to six institutions worldwide in recognition of their contributions and efforts as partners. HKU SPACE was proud to be chosen as one of the six and the only one in Hong Kong.

  • With effect from September 2009, HKU SPACE became an Affiliate Centre of the University of London in Hong Kong. This is the highest level of recognition and means that in the considered view of the University of London, HKU SPACE demonstrates a sustained commitment to developing excellence in respect of teaching, support to students and administrative processes.

One-Stop Service for Application and Registration via HKU SPACE

  • For the past 25 years, HKU SPACE has provided a one-stop service for application and registration for admission to many undergraduate degree programmes of the University of London International Programmes. These services are offered for the convenience of all Hong Kong applicants whether or not they are HKU SPACE students.

  • For LLM and other applicants of postgraduate courses, we provide a service for verification of documentary evidence and submission of application forms with a minimal charge.

  • For those not applying via our office, we now also offer a verification of documentary evidence service for all University of London applications with a charge of $250.

Open Days
29 April and 8 July 2017 (Saturdays)

Please refer to details in the specific prospectus.

Early application is recommended because:

  • late applications and registrations will not be accepted;

  • applications that do not meet the general entrance and/or course requirements of a programme will have to be referred to the University of London Admissions Panel for a final decision. This requires considerable processing time, so application before June 2017 is advised; and

  • a relevant HKU SPACE supporting tuition course may be full or have started well before the University of London International Programmes application deadline, so application before June 2017 is also advised.

Quality and Standards

Academic direction for all of the courses offered through the University of London International Programmes is provided by the world-class Colleges of the University of London. These Colleges include University College London (UCL), The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), King’s College London, Queen Mary, Birkbeck, Royal Holloway, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and Goldsmiths. The Colleges (known as Lead Colleges) develop the syllabuses, prepare the study materials and are responsible for the assessment of students. This means that students benefit from the academic rigour and leading-edge research undertaken by the Colleges. It also ensures that the standard of award made to International Programmes students is maintained at the same level as the standard of award made to students studying at one of the Colleges of the University of London.

The Award You Receive

  • When you graduate with a degree, diploma or certificate from the University of London, you will be sent two documents - a final diploma (i.e. the parchment you receive following graduation) and a Diploma Supplement.

  • The final diploma will indicate that you were registered with the University of London and awarded a University of London degree, diploma or certificate, and give the name of the Lead College which conducted the examinations. The University of London logo and signature of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of London are incorporated. The Diploma Supplement will describe the nature, level and content of the programme you successfully completed and include a transcript of courses taken and marks achieved, as well as the overall classification. It also provides further information about the role of the Lead College and method of study.
