Bauhaus - Beginning and Development of Modern Design in Germany
On 8 June 2024, Mr. Thomas Spitzer, part-time German instructor of HKU SPACE and former German coordinator of the City University of Hong Kong, gave a talk on the Bauhaus school regarding its design principles, history and related famous designers. The Bauhaus school was a German art school founded by architect Walter Gropius in 1919 and operational after World War I, aiming to merge art and technology to create functional yet aesthetically appealing designs. Despite the Nazis’ pressure to close down in 1933, the Bauhaus Movement is upheld as an art which has radically changed the modern design landscape worldwide.
