The Queen's Anniversary Prize

The University of Plymouth (UoP) is one of the UK's most prominent and dynamic universities with an educational history dating back to 1862. UoP is ranked 35th in the Guardian 2009 UK universities. It is renowned in logistics, shipping and trade subject areas. UoP has been recognised by the Government as one of the country's top universities for teaching excellence. In January 2005, UoP was awarded four Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs) by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to reward its excellent teaching practice and to further invest in teaching practice for the benefit of students. Fifteen of UoP's subject areas have been ranked excellent or equivalent, and its portfolio of marine-based degrees is the most extensive in the UK.

Plymouth Business School offers a portfolio of wide-ranging programmes, as well as practical applications in both private and public sectors. Plymouth Business School's International Shipping & Logistics Group is part of a tradition of maritime education in the UK stretching back to the mid‑nineteenth century. The Group is distinctive in examining the business application of shipping and logistics within maritime courses. The Group has an enviable reputation within industry for its courses and research. Many of its graduates are presently employed in global shipping and logistical businesses. The Group is associated with a number of commercial and international maritime organizations including the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport and the Nautical Institute.

Non-Local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance
These are exempted courses under the Non-local Higher and Professional Education (Regulation) Ordinance. It is a matter of discretion for individual employers to recognise any qualification to which these courses may lead.

Days / Time

  • Friday evenings (occasionally other weekday evenings)
  • Saturday afternoons and evenings (occasionally Sunday afternoons and evenings)
  • All modules consist of one block-weekend teaching

Duration

  • 1.5 years (minimum), 2 years (normal), 5 years (maximum)

Entry Requirements

Applicants should:
 
1)   hold a recognized Professional Diploma or Higher Diploma in the discipline of
      logistics, transport, shipping or trade awarded within HKU system through HKU
      SPACE or other recognized institutions
 
AND
 
2)   provide evidence of English proficiency:
      (i)   HKCEE English Language at Level 2;
      (ii)   HKCEE English Language (Syllabus B) at Grade E (Grade C in the case of
             English Language (Syllabus A));
      (iii)  A score of 6.0 or above in the IELTS or a score of 500 in the paper-based
             TOEFL, a score of 173 in the computer-based TOEFL and a score of 4.5 in
             the Test of Written English;
 
AND
 
3)   have 2 years of full-time work experience in the area of logistics, transport,
      shipping, operations or trade.
 
Applicants with other equivalent qualifications will be considered on individual merits.

  • HK$3,200 per module (Local Enrichment Modules; All fees are subject to change without prior notice)
  • HK$12,600 per module (UoP Modules; All fees are subject to change without prior notice)

Enrolment Method

Completed application forms should be submitted IN PERSON to HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.
 
Applications must be accompanied by:
  • A non-refundable HK$150 application fee (cheque should be crossed and made payable to “HKU SPACE”);
  • Photostat copies of Hong Kong Identity Card;
  • Photostat copies of all relevant educational qualifications and workproof;
  • Original certificates and transcripts of relevant qualifications, which are needed for certification by HKU SPACE;
  • One passport photograph.
