Highlights
The programme also provides a solid foundation for those who plan to study for a higher qualification in translation in the future: holders of the Postgraduate Certificate in Translation can articulate to Postgraduate Diploma in Translation with exemption from the first five modules of the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation programme offered by HKU SPACE.

On completion of the programme, students should be able to:
1. communicate with translation of appropriate lexicon and style in a different language to the general audience in a general context;
2. comprehend and analyze texts of different cultures and different linguistic features and recreate their meanings in a different linguistic and cultural context;
3. translate texts from Chinese to English or vice versa by applying suitable translation strategies in a broad range of translation practice.
Assessment is based on coursework and in-class tests. Students must pass all course assessment components, including written translation assignments, essays and tests, of the respective modules.
On successful completion of the programme and meeting the attendance requirement of at least 80% attendance for the overall programme, students will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Translation within the HKU system through HKU SPACE.

Entry Requirements
Applicants shall
- hold a bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized university; and
- pass a one-hour language competency test*.
*Applicants who have obtained the following qualifications as proofs of their proficiency in English and Chinese will be exempted from the language competency test:
- HKDSE Examination English and Chinese Language at Level 4 or above; or
- HKALE Use of English and Chinese Language and Culture at Grade D or above; or
- equivalent qualifications.
Those who do not meet the standard set of criteria for admission will be considered on individual merit.
