The programme aims to provide industry practitioners, especially the new entrants, a comprehensive training programme on the basics of logistics and international trade. 

Programme Details

Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of the module, students should be able to  

  1. describe the role of a freight forwarder as well as the advantages and disadvantages of their services;  

  2. describe the procurement process, its effects on the supply chain and assess the role of warehousing/inventory management; 

  3. describe the latest development on e-commerce and e-shipping as well as to identify the role and relevance of internet-based technology on current shipping practices;  

  4. describe banking practices in terms of payment, document formalities that need to be adhered to, the purposes and the particular features of the use of the relevant forms;  

  5. state the practices in Hong Kong pertaining to export and import licensing control and complete documentation required by the Trade and Industry Department, HKSAR Government for import and export;  

  6. describe the latest development on digitalisation in trade and logistics relevant to the respective needs of shippers; and 

  7. depict the fundamental principles of law in relation to sales of goods.

Assessment

30 minutes quiz and 2-hour examination

 

Award

Students who have successfully fulfilled the course assessment (i.e. passed the 30 minutes quiz, 2-hour examination and attended at least 70% of the classes) will be awarded the "Certificate for Module (Logistics and International Trade)" within the HKU system through HKU SPACE.

Entry Requirements

Applicants shall have: 

  1. gained in the HKDSE Examination Level 2 in 5 subjects including English Language; or 

  2. gained 4 passes in the HKCEE plus Level 2* in English Language; or 

  3. one year of relevant work experience at supervisory level in shipping and logistics industry; or 

  4. completed Secondary 5 or Secondary 6 with employer’s recommendation endorsed by the Hong Kong Shippers’ Council; or 

  5. attained a RPL (Logistics) qualification of minimum 30 credits at QF Level 2 or above. 

 

Applicants with other equivalent qualifications and relevant work experience will be considered on individual merit. 

 

* With effect from 2007, HKU SPACE recognises Grade E previously awarded for Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) (Grade C in Syllabus A) at HKCEE as an alternative to Level 2.
