Highlights

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE
This programme aims to meet the continuing education and professional development needs of those who are currently working in the business aviation field or those who have aspirations in developing their future careers in the private jet business. The programme provides core private jet management and operation concepts, as well as specialized knowledge in delivering premium inflight butler services. A broad and holistic view of private jet management will be given to students with particular emphasis on hospitality service techniques.

(3)  Financial Assistance: 
(a) Maritime and Aviation Training Fund
The $100 million Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF) approved by the Legislative Council in January 2014 came into operation on 1 April 2014. The Fund is to sustain and enhance existing training schemes and scholarships, as well for launching new initiatives for the aviation sector. The aim is to build up in due course a vibrant, diversified and competitive pool of professionals and technical personnel to support Hong Kong’s future development in the aviation sector. Each Eligible applicant of Professional Training and Examination Refund Scheme (ProTERS) are refunded with 80% of the fees after completing approved courses or passing examinations, subject to a cap of $30,000 (whichever is less) for the pre-approved course/examination (LINK ). Please note that the eligible applicant should be full-time employment in the aviation sector with an organization/company in Hong Kong.

*According to the terms and conditions of the Continuing Education Fund, students seeking reimbursement of the fees under CEF must not have obtained any other publicity-funded financial assistance, such as MATF, for the same module to avoid double benefits.

(4)  Valuable Field Trip Experiences: 
Students will be arranged to overseas and/or local field trips (e.g.  Zhuhai/Macau/Shanghai AIRSHOW, Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre, Private Jet aircraft visit, yacht club, luxury hotel, wine cellar, cigar shop, etc…). They will be able to learn the ground and/or on-board operation and procedures in real world setting through these visits, gain the latest development and trends of the business aviation industry from different guest speakers and teachers who are practitioners in the private jet management companies and/or luxury hospitality service providers.

Programme Details

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOME

On completion of the programme, students should be able to:

  1. Discuss the market environment and management issues of the private jet business; 
  2. Explain and describe core private jet operational procedures;
  3. Describe the professional customer service standard of private jets;
  4. Illustrate the preparation and serving skills of food and beverage on board the private jets; and
  5. Identify the roles, attributes and responsibilities of a private jet flight attendant

Programme Structure

This part-time “Certificate in Private Jet Hospitality Service Management” programme consists of 4 modules comprising 30 credits in total. Those 12-credit modules will have 36 face-to-face lecture hours, 3 hours for non-lecture activities, such as field trip, site visit and seminar and 8 hours for E-learning exercises. Students will be arranged to have field trips and site visits in Hong Kong and/or overseas so as to broaden exposure and learn in-depth about the industry. Overseas air shows in Zhuhai/Macau/Shanghai allow you to gain the insights of operation and procedure in a real world setting, and these are arranged at students’ own expenses. Those 3-credit modules will have 12 face-to-face lecture hours, with demonstrations, role-plays, wine and spirits tasting.

The lecturer will deliver part of the module in the kitchen to demonstrate plate decoration and preparation of different meals, such as:

  • Culinary skill

4.     
Introductory wines and spirits tasting and servicing

The lecturer will deliver the module in the wine room. The students learn how to taste and appreciate wine and spirits; and how to serve wine in a professional way, such as:

  • The overview and understanding of wine
  • The overview and understanding of spirits
  • Introduction to food and wine pairing
  • Technical skills of wine service


Students will be able to get the WSET level 1 Award in Wines upon passing the module with a mark of 70%.

There are four terms in a year (March, June, September and December).

Exemption Policy

Exemption will only be given if a student studied similar module at the same HKQF level 3 in the past 10 years, and the student should provide supporting documents to apply for exemption before the start of the programme. The exemption is up to 50% only.

Teaching and Learning Approach

The prgramme will be offered in part-time mode, it will be delivered through face-to-face lecture and complemented through field trips, site visits and/or seminars. Block teaching mode will be used to allow students to focus their learning, therefore, classes will be delivered in a 6-hour block in weekdays/weekends.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

The medium of instruction and assessments will be in English and supplemented with Cantonese.

Assessment

The mode of assessment is different from module to module but will be generally based on a combination of coursework. Throughout the programme, students will be assessed by a combination of:

Awards

Students will be awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE a “Certificate in Private Jet Hospitality Management” after satisfactory completion of the four modules. In addition, students will be able to get the “WSET level 1 Award in Wines” upon passing the module “Introductory wines and spirits tasting and servicing” with a mark of 70%.

Entry Requirements

Applicants shall:

  1. Have gained in the HKDSE Examination Level 2 or above in 4 subjects including English Language; OR
  2. Have gained in the HKCEE Level 2 / Grade E or above in 4 subjects including English Language; OR
  3. Be aged at least 21 or above with three years of relevant work experience.

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque Or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and applicant’s name. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying “Course Application” on the envelope. HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of personal information and payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.

4. Online Payment

Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, new and continuing students of award-bearing programmes with available online service, they may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay or Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

Notes

  • If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circumstance.

  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque, FPS or PPS by Internet will be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will be reimbursed to the credit card account used for payment. 

  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment, receipt, or personal information sent by mail.
  • For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to “HKU SPACE” to any of our enrolment centres.
