Postgraduate Diploma in Humanities Information Seminar
The Third Age is a period of freedom and leisure that human beings enter upon after years of work. It does not necessarily mean retirement, but rather, an open possibility for reflecting on and rethinking one's own life.
The courses under the Programme are not concerned with productivity, profits or politics, but with the nourishment of the mind with the wealth of the humanities, Western and Chinese. They do not subsume themselves under the regular university’s single-discipline division as philosophy or literature, but are interdisciplinary in approach and thought-provoking in nature. Conducted by distinguished scholars in the humanities fields, they require active intellectual engagement in the texts and dialogues.
Our teaching team of renowned scholars have given briefings on their respective modules during the seminar. They include:
Professor Cheung Chan Fai – Ageing and the Art of Living
Rev Dr Ha Keloon – Dies Irae: The End of the World
Professor Chan Wing Wah – Musical Culture East and West
Dr. Ronald Teng – Aristotle’s Life Philosophy: The Ethics and The Politics
Dr. Ho Wai Ming – Human in Greek Myths
Dr. Sophia Kao – From Monet to Cezanne
Dr. Gao Xin – Idea of Education: Paedeia, Universitas and Bildung
Dr Felix Chao - Passion and Desire: Erotic Writings in Classical Chinese Literature
Dr Julie Chiu – Poetics of Passion: Women of Greek Epic, Lyric and Drama
Dr Jackie Kwok – What is the meaning of being ‘old’? An Introduction to Theories of Ageing from Disengagement Theory to Critical Gerontology
Many people registered for and showed up at the seminar on September 2 and it generated very postitive feekbacks. If you are interested in engaging in quality life education as well as achieving a 'renaissance ' of the mind, please apply for Postgraduate Diploma in Humanities, which will commence in November 2016!
