Mr. David Chin, Senior Advisor, UBS; Non-executive director, China Post Savings Bank
David Chin is currently a Senior Advisor to UBS and Non-executive director of China Postal Savings Bank. During the academic year 2015-16, he was a Visiting Bye Fellow at Selwyn College, Cambridge University. He was Head of Investment Banking Division, Asia for UBS based in Hong Kong between 2009 and 2015. Under his leadership, UBS was consistently ranked top in Asian investment banking league tables. Prior to 2009, David had held various senior positions including Head of Financial Institutions Group and Head of Mergers & Acquisitions in UBS Asia. He played an active role in business development for UBS, particularly in Hong Kong and China, including the development of offshore Renminbi equities and bond products since 2011; the formation of UBS Securities in China in 2007; and UBS's US$500m investment in Bank of China in 2005. David led a wide range of capital market and M&A transactions for major clients in Asia, such as Bank of China, China Merchants Bank, China Pacific Insurance, Haitong Securities, Cinda Asset Management, China Resources, HKEx, CP Group and RT Mart. He was a member of the Asia Pacific Executive Committee of UBS, and Alternate Chief Executive for UBS Hong Kong. He retired from UBS in June 2015 after 21 years of service. David joined SG Warburg, a predecessor firm of UBS, in London in 1994, and moved to Hong Kong in 1996. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in London in 1993. He has a MA degree in Economics from Selwyn College, Cambridge University.

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:
Mr. David Chin, a 21 year banking veteran and Head of UBS Asia Investment Banking between 2009-2015, will be sharing his insights in Chinese corporates' mergers and acquisitions. What are the factors driving the frantic outbound activities? Can such a level be sustained? What are the challenges for the Chinese corporates and will many of these cases end in failure? David will illustrate through the use of case studies, including Bank of China's acquisition of Singapore Aircraft Leasing, the growth of HNA Group, Bright Food's acquisition of Weetabix and Shuanghui's acquisition of Smithfield, among others.
