Programme Details
On completion of the programme, students should be able to:
1. define a wide range of string pedagogical methods;
2. devise effective teaching strategies for fundamental string technique and early musicianship, tailored to various situations;
3. explain the strengths and challenges young pupils experience at the beginning stage of string instruction; and
4. apply teaching strategies that reflect on understanding of a composition, demonstrating critical thinking and analysis in the instructional process.
A ‘Certificate for Module (String Pedagogy in the 21st Century)’ will be awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE to students who meet ALL of the following:
- passed the assessments
- achieved at least 70% of attendance

Teachers
Teacher Information
Dr. Felix Ungar
Dr. Felix Ungar teaches in the collegiate and junior divisions at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, as well as the Hong Kong Baptist University. A former Fulbright Scholar, Ungar holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Eastman School of Music, where he completed his doctorate. Ungar has given masterclasses and lectures at Shanghai Conservatory, Taipei National University of Arts, Cleveland Institute of Music, American Viola Society Festival, Guangdong Viola Association, and on behalf of the US Department of State. He performs with the RTHK String Quartet. His principal teachers include Jeffrey Irvine, Lynne Ramsey, Carol Rodland, and Donald McInnes.
