As announced by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, starting January 2023, all exam takers of HSK levels 3 to 6 are required to take the corresponding HSKK exams on the same exam date in one sitting.
Specific arrangements are as follows:
HSK level 3 applicants must take the HSKK Primary Level (Beginner) (初級) oral test;
HSK level 4 applicants must take the HSKK Intermediate Level (中級) oral test;
HSK level 5 and level 6 applicants must take the HSKK Advanced Level (高級) oral test.

To apply, please visit any HKU SPACE enrolment centre in person with all required forms and a recent colour photograph (mandatory). Latest information will be updated on the school's respective HSK & HSKK test level webpages.

The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) is operated by the Chinese Testing International (CTI, wholly-owned by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters), a non-governmental public institution affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It is an international standardized test to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives.

- Vacancies are open for public applications, but limited on a "first-come, first-served" basis.
- HKU SPACE offered the HSK test in the form of paper-based test (PBT) and is printed in Simplified Chinese.
- Internet (iBT)/computer/home based test is NOT offered.

The HSK consists of two independent parts, which are written test and speaking test; written test ranges from Level 1 to Level 6 and the speaking test is divided into HSKK (Beginner), HSKK (Intermediate) and HSKK (Advanced).
