Highlights

Following our 2015 & 2017 study tours to Edinburgh, it is our third time to collaborate with Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) to organise a fun and educational summer study programme to Edinburgh, Scotland in August 2025 for 7 days! This study tour programme has two new themes of "Scotch Whisky" and "Scotch Culture"

If you wish to understand more about the Scottish unique culture, and have a TASTE of Scotland in different perspectives, join us!

 

Programme Objectives:

  1. To broaden students’ global outlook and allow them to have a systematic learning of a new culture (e.g. food, art, people, architecture, folklore, festival, lifestyle) overseas within a short timeframe;  
  2. To deepen students’ knowledge in Scotch whisky and craft beer through visits and tastings; 
  3. To attend workshops delivered by HKU SPACE and Edinburgh Napier University and have a taste of university life; 
  4. To learn and experience the world-famous festivals and events in Edinburgh (e.g. Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and few other festivals) in August.

Programme Details

 

This study tour consists of two parts:

(A) 3 hours Pre-departure workshop at HKU SPACE: 25 July, 7-10 pm

  • Ice-breaking
  • Introduction to geography, weather, and basic information of Scotland and Edinburgh
  • Introduction to the itinerary and preparation for the stay
  • Introduction to events and festivals in Edinburgh
  • Introduction to Scotch Whisky and Tastings

 

(B) 7 days Educational Tour in Edinburgh: 3 - 9 Aug

1. Have a Taste of Scotch Whisky and Craft Beer

You will visit four famous Whisky Distilleries and one Craft Beer Brewery in Scotland, understand the whisky & craft beer production process, and appreciate the taste of different Scottish Whiskys (such as Johnnie Walker, Macallan, Glenfiddich and Port of Leith Distillery) and Craft Beer at Stewart Brewing!

Macallan Estate Distillery Experience

Macallan is one of the most famous and prestigious whisky distilleries in Scotland. Located in the Speyside region, The Macallan is known for producing single malt whiskies that are highly sought after by whisky enthusiasts worldwide.

The Macallan is renowned for its rich and complex whiskies, often aged in sherry-seasoned oak casks that impart a unique flavor profile to the spirit. The distillery's range includes a variety of expressions, from the classic Sherry Oak and Fine Oak series to limited edition releases and ultra-premium offerings.

Glenfiddich Distillery Tour

Glenfiddich is another iconic distillery based in Dufftown, Scotland. Established in 1887, Glenfiddich is one of the few remaining family-owned distilleries in Scotland and is credited with popularizing single malt whisky around the world.

Glenfiddich's range of whiskies includes the core 12, 15, 18, and 21-year-old expressions, as well as experimental releases like the Glenfiddich IPA Experiment and Project XX. The distillery is known for its innovative approach to whisky-making and its commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

3. Experience the world-famous festivals in August: 

You will be able to secure a ticket of the spectacular the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, and enjoy two paid shows at Edinburgh Festival Fringe! Besides, during your visit, you can also take part in other August festivals, e.g. Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Art Festival, Edinburgh International Book Festival and Edinburgh International Film Festival. For festival and event lovers, they cannot miss all these incredible top class cultural events with performers from all over the world!

4. Experience student life at Edinburgh Napier University!

Class Details

 

Meal arrangement:
6 meals will be arranged by HKU SPACE and Edinburgh Napier University, so that students can have more chances to expose to the local cuisine of their own choices, and they can enjoy more flexibility to arrange their own meals at their own time, or simply have self-catering in the student accommodation. Students need to prepare their own breakfast, or have breakfasts on their own, for all days.

Accommodation arrangement:
Student accommodation will be in Orwell Terrace, Edinburgh Napier University accommodation. Students will stay in standard en-suite bedroom (single room), with self-catering facilities and living area.

Local transportation arrangement:
Students will be given a one week unlimited bus pass to travel around Edinburgh and downtown area, to and from Edinburgh airport as well during the 7 day period (3-9 Aug). For the day trip to Highland on 7 Aug, coach will be used to commute students to different attractions.

Eddie Chui

Background

Eddie is a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) accredited by the Society of Wine Educators; as well as the Certified Whisky Ambassador trainer from the UK.

Eddie gave speeches and seminars in various wine, whisky and spirits exhibitions and events, and was also invited to be a judge in different local and international wine and spirits competitions and tastings, including HKIWSC, World Whisky Awards, etc.

After years as a wine lover, Eddie became a true connoisseur, wine writer and critics. He started up the Cru Magazine with another wine elite in 2010, working as the Editorial Director (Chief Editor), aiming to provide coverage in wine, spirits, cultural and luxury lifestyle. In 2016, he started collaborating with international publication Whisky Magazine from UK to bring Whisky Magazine HK and Macau Edition as well as the famous Whisky Live HK show to Hong Kong.

Eddie will be an instructor in 3 hour Pre-departure Workshops in HKU SPACE.

Payment Method
1. Cash, EPS, WeChat Pay Or Alipay

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque Or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and applicant’s name. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying “Course Application” on the envelope. HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of personal information and payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. For enquiries, please contact our staff at any enrolment centres.

4. Online Payment

Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, new and continuing students of award-bearing programmes with available online service, they may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay or Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

Notes

  • If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circumstance.

  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque, FPS or PPS by Internet will be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will be reimbursed to the credit card account used for payment. 

  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment, receipt, or personal information sent by mail.
  • For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to “HKU SPACE” to any of our enrolment centres.
