Highlights

The programme aims to equip students, who possess a commercial pilot license, with professional knowledge and skills to obtain the Airbus 320 aircraft type rating qualification.  Through supervised simulation practice, computer-based training as well as lecture training, students would learn to master the technical and theoretical aspects of the A320 aircraft including the operation of different aircraft systems, and the appropriate aircraft control procedures under normal, abnormal and emergencies situations.  The programme curriculum is designed with reference to the aviation industry practice and aircraft manufacturer defined standard.
 

Programme Details

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) of the programme:

On completion of the programme, students should be able to

  1. operate the Airbus aircraft A320 type systems in accordance with the aviation industry practice and aircraft manufacturer defined standard;
  2. evaluate the importance of human factors, culture diversity and safety management on the aircraft A320 operation;
  3. apply knowledge and skills of meteorology, navigation and performance calculation, and radiotelephony on the aircraft 320 control;
  4. apply appropriate aircraft control procedures under the normal, abnormal and emergency situations according to the industry standard procedures.

Assessment and award

A "Professional Diploma in Aircraft Rating (Aeroplanes - A320 Type Rating)" will be awarded within the HKU system through HKU SPACE to students who have satisfied the following criteria:

  • Achieve 100% attendance rate of all theory classes and practical sessions in the programme; and
  • Pass all the assessments

  • Main teaching venue in HKU SPACE campus & Specialised teaching venue and training facilities for flight simulation practice.

Class Details

There are 117 contact hours in lectures and the teaching schedule is normally three classes per week, either on weekday evenings or at weekends. Students are expected to take 30 hours per week in study load (i.e. 15 hours for contact hours and 15 hours for self-studies per week). There are also 171 contact hours in site visit, training and tutorial. In total, there are 288 contact hours for this programme.

Professional Accreditation

The qualification obtained through the programme is recognised as a qualification produced under an approved HK Express training programme which is a qualification issued by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department (HKCAD) . The qualification will form part of an inclusion of type rating endorsement in the graduate’s Air Transport Pilot License issued by ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation, an United Nation specialised agency) contracting state.

Applicants shall

(i)    hold a valid Commercial Pilot Licence (aeroplanes) recognised by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) #

AND

(ii)   provide evidence of ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or above ##

Payment Method
1. Cash, EPS, WeChat Pay Or Alipay

Course fees can be paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay or Alipay at any HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres.

2. Cheque Or Bank draft

Course fees can also be paid by crossed cheque or bank draft made payable to “HKU SPACE”. Please specify the programme title(s) for application and applicant’s name. You may either:

  • bring the completed form(s), together with the appropriate course or application fees in the form of a cheque, and any required supporting documents to any of the HKU SPACE enrolment centres;
  • or mail the above documents to any of the HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres, specifying “Course Application” on the envelope. HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of personal information and payment sent by mail.
3. VISA/Mastercard

Applicants may also pay the course fee by VISA or Mastercard, including the “HKU SPACE Mastercard”, at any HKU SPACE enrolment centres. Holders of the HKU SPACE Mastercard can enjoy a 10-month interest-free instalment period for courses with a tuition fee worth a minimum of HK$2,000; however, the course applicant must also be the cardholder himself/herself. 4. Online Payment

Online application / enrolment is offered for most open admission courses (enrolled on first come, first served basis) and selected award-bearing programmes. Application fees and course fees of these programmes/courses can be settled by using "PPS by Internet" (not available via mobile phones), VISA or Mastercard. In addition to the aforesaid online payment channels, new and continuing students of award-bearing programmes with available online service, they may also pay their course fees by Online WeChat Pay, Online Alipay or Faster Payment System (FPS). Please refer to Enrolment Methods - Online Enrolment  for details.

Notes

  • If the programme/course is starting within five working days, application by post is not recommended to avoid any delays. Applicants are advised to enrol in person at HKU SPACE Enrolment Centres and avoid making cheque payment under this circumstance.

  • Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances (e.g. course cancellation due to insufficient enrolment), subject to the School’s discretion. In exceptional cases where a refund is approved, fees paid by cash, EPS, WeChat Pay, Alipay, cheque, FPS or PPS by Internet will be reimbursed by a cheque, and fees paid by credit card will be reimbursed to the credit card account used for payment. 

  • In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries to the relevant programme team for details.
  • Fees and places on courses cannot be transferrable from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of HK$120 will be levied on each approved transfer.
  • HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of payment, receipt, or personal information sent by mail.
  • For payment certification, please submit a completed form, a sufficiently stamped and self-addressed envelope, and a crossed cheque for HK$30 per copy made payable to “HKU SPACE” to any of our enrolment centres.

Partner Details

The programme is offered in collaboration with Hong Kong Express Airways Limited (HK Express). HK Express is a wholly-owned subsidiary under the Cathay Pacific Group which is a Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department Approved Training Organisation (Type Rating) (ATO(TR)), and is the leading low-cost carrier in the Hong Kong aviation industry.  


HK Express has aircraft manufacturer-licensed training materials to support computer-based training (CBT), and cockpit mock-up (CMU) training. HK Express also has specialised teaching facilities such as flight simulation training devices (FSTD) for procedure training, static flight simulator and full motion flight simulator built based on Airbus A320 family aircraft for flight simulation practice.  The training instructors are holders of professional pilot licences for the appropriate aircraft types issued by the HKCAD or an authority recognised by the HKCAD.
