Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) Preparation Courses (University of London)
倫敦大學法律學士學位試課程
HKU SPACE is a Recognised Teaching Centre of the University of London and has been providing high quality and effective Preparation Courses for the LLB Programme for more than five decades.

The University of London LLB is a well-respected qualification and is accepted as a pre-requisite academic qualification to the professional stage in many Common Law jurisdictions.  Many of our graduates have been admitted to practise in Hong Kong and England and Wales. There are also graduates who, by relying on the University of London LLB studied with HKU SPACE, are admitted to practise in other jurisdictions.  Many students find the logical problem-solving skills gained from studying the degree a springboard for other professions as well.  LLB degree is studied not only by students who hope to become lawyers but also by those who feel that a Law qualification would help them in their present profession or who are interested in the modules offered.

Professional Career Progression

Hong Kong

Those students wishing to qualify as lawyers in Hong Kong must complete the P.C.LL. course. From 2008 additional admission requirements have been imposed for the P.C.LL. . Those wishing to apply for P.C.LL. must also have completed an IELTS test within three years of application and should have an overall 7.

Completion of the University of London LLB fulfills most of the Hong Kong P.C.LL. admission Core Subjects requirement.  "Missing" competencies and Top-up Subjects, however, can be acquired via taking the Conversion Exams.  Starting from the academic year 2021/2022, there are  nine Core Subjects required for entry to the P.C.LL. programme.  For full details, please see https://ple.hku.hk/ and pcea.com.hk.   Students should be mindful of their choices of optional modules if they are working towards a Hong Kong P.C.LL. aligned law degree.

SQE

The Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) opens to degree holders in any subject intending to be qualified as solicitors.  But a prestigious formal law degree still puts you in a better position and is likely to be favoured by law firms.  A rigorous LLB will give you solid foundation to pass the SQE assessments.  SQE includes two assessments: SQE1 and SQE2.  SQE1 assesses functioning legal knowledge (FLK).  Most of the FLK areas are covered in the LLB curriculum.  For full details, please refer to the Solicitors Regulation Authority:  https://www.sra.org.uk/become-solicitor/sqe/

Bar training

You still need a qualifying law degree (minimum 2:2 classification) or a non-law degree plus a Graduate Diploma in Law to fulfill the academic stage if you want to become a barrister.  Your law degree must include seven foundations of legal knowledge which are all covered in the LLB curriculum.  For full details, please refer to the Bar Standards Board:  https://www.barstandardsboard.org.uk/training-qualification/becoming-a-barrister.html

Admission in other jurisdictions

With the London LLB, many HKU SPACE alumni have succeeded in getting admitted to practise in Canada, California, and New York, etc.  HKU SPACE has been providing numerous testimonies to qualifying authorities in different jurisdictions for alumni on their study and attendance of courses.

Presentation and Graduation Ceremonies

HKU SPACE and University of London Presentation Ceremony will normally be held in Hong Kong in January.  The official Graduation Ceremony of the University of London will be held in London in March.
