HKU SPACE has a history of over 60 years and is one of the major providers of self-financing and transnational education in Hong Kong. HKU SPACE invites local and international educators, researchers, education policy makers and professionals from academia and industry to share their experience and to discuss how different programmes can enhance learning experience in this international conference.

Higher education has expanded over the past two decades. In addition to local awards, transnational education (TNE) programmes provide students with a broader range of high-quality courses offered in collaboration with universities worldwide. According to a number of studies, TNE programmes bring substantial benefits to all stakeholders. The sector now faces major changes.

In Hong Kong, the self-financing post-secondary education sector is of paramount importance to the tertiary education ecosystem, complementing the publicly funded higher education sector, by creating more education opportunities and providing new perspectives and diversity in programme choices as all of the institutions above will come under the revised Cap. 320.

Regulations (Cap. 320) were first enacted in 1960 to govern the registration and regulation of post-secondary colleges. At present, there are eleven institutions registered under Cap. 320 and a number of institutions under the Education Ordinance. In addition, there are the self-financing arms of the UGC funded and self-accrediting universities.
