Thai Dancer Golfy is not only an active dancer, choreographer and teacher, but also an social media influencer with 100,000 and 500,000 fans on Youtube and Keep Fitness channels respectively.

Mr TK Tan has extensive experience in teaching Japanese language and culture. He is in charge of part-time Asian language programmes at the College of Humanities and Law, HKU SPACE.

Join us for a seminar on the development and current situation of J-pop & K-pop music. We will explore how Asian pop music was inspired by the West and emerged as a cultural force after the 1950s. Japan, Greater China, and Korea have all become influential in the Asian pop music scene, each with their own unique characteristics.
Starting from the 1970s, Japanese pop music, or J-pop, had a profound impact on the entire Asian region. J-pop became the leading force in Asian pop music, influencing artists and fans across different countries. Chinese songs, both in Cantonese and Mandarin, also gained popularity and spread worldwide, creating a vibrant Chinese pop music market.
More recently, Korea has emerged as a major player in the global music industry. With the rise of K-pop, Korea has become the sixth largest music market in the world. K-pop is known for its idol groups and energetic dance moves, captivating fans around the world.
During the seminar, we will delve into the history, trends, and current state of J-pop & K-pop music. As a special highlight, we have invited Golfy, a Thai modern dancer and YouTube influencer, to demonstrate the Cover Dance of K-pop and J-pop. Cover Dance is a popular trend where fans learn and perform dance routines from their favorite K-pop or J-pop songs. Interested students will have the opportunity to join Golfy and experience the fun of Cover Dance together.
