Welcome to Register for the Preparatory Workshop for OLQE 2025 (Head V - Principles of Common Law)

This workshop delivers a structured curriculum combining core legal knowledge with practical advocacy skills essential for success in Head V of OLQE. The first component establishes a rigorous foundation in key areas of Hong Kong law, including common law principles and equitable doctrinescontract law (as modified by statutory provisions), tort law fundamentals with emphasis on negligence, and criminal liability frameworks—particularly offenses involving dishonesty, violence, and fraud. Participants will also engage with constitutional law dimensions through analysis of the Basic Law’s role in preserving Hong Kong’s common law system, supplemented by comparative study of precedents from global common law jurisdictions.

The second component transforms this doctrinal knowledge into actionable professional capabilities. Through intensive scenario-based exercises, participants develop the dual competencies of time-pressured legal analysis and persuasive oral advocacy. Trainees practice dissecting complex case facts, formulating coherent legal arguments, and defending their positions under simulated examination conditions — mirroring the interactive dynamic of presenting to assessors.

This skills-focused training emphasizes clarity in verbal reasoning, strategic response to examiner questioning, and the ability to articulate nuanced interpretations of statutory provisions and case law.

The workshop comprises a total of 36 instructional hours, delivered through twelve sessions of three hours each. These sessions will be conducted on an intensive basis during January and February 2026 before the OLQE Head V examination.
