On 24 July 2026, the 10th Anniversary Annual Meeting and Presidents’ Forum of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao University Alliance (the “GHMUA”) was held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Alliance for Continuing Education (the “GHMUACE”), formally established in 2025, was also invited to participate in this prestigious event. As one of the founding members of the GHMUACE, HKU SPACE was represented by Dr Joey Lam, who joined representatives from all 52 member institutions across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao to explore the future development of higher education in the Greater Bay Area.

Under the theme “A Decade of Cooperation, Shared Success in the GBA”, the annual meeting featured a Presidents’ Forum focusing on topics including the integration of industry, education and research, collaborative talent development ecosystems, and internationalisation. Nearly 180 representatives attended the event, including Ms Zhang Jin, Deputy Director-General of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China; Dr Choi Yuk-lin, Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government; Mr Zheng Jinpeng, Inspector II of the Department of Educational and Youth Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Mr Xu Shimin, Chief Inspector of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province; Mr Ding Shaoxiong, Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Development Bureau, Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region; Mr Xia Fangming, Inspector II of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of Guangdong Province; Dr Liu Chenggong, Party Secretary of Sun Yat-sen University and Chairperson of the GHMUA Board; Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK and Vice-Chairperson of the GHMUA Board; and Professor Song Yonghua, President of the University of Macau (UM) and Vice-Chairperson of the GHMUA Board.

During the meeting, the GHMUA also launched its 10th Anniversary Achievement Exhibition and premiered a commemorative video celebrating a decade of collaboration. Since its establishment in 2016 by Sun Yat-sen University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Macau, the GHMUA has grown to include 52 leading higher education institutions and has established nearly 80 professional sub-alliances, fostering practical cooperation across a wide range of disciplines. The annual meeting further strengthened consensus among member institutions and demonstrated how the unique strengths of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao can be leveraged to create new opportunities for the future development of higher education in the Greater Bay Area.
