In early March 2025, over 20 Shenzhen lawyers participated in the first session of the “Hong Kong-related Legal Services Training Workshops” entitled “Cross-border Lawyering: Business Model and Collaboration Areas” hosted by HKU SPACE. The training workshop series are designed to meet the growing demand of mainland lawyers to expand cross-border legal services, providing them with a professional platform to understand Hong Kong's legal system, explore pathways for professional legal education in Hong Kong, and foster business collaboration with Hong Kong lawyers. Held on March 1st and 2nd at the University of Hong Kong, the training covered the evolution of Hong Kong's legal system, opportunities and challenges in legal service cooperation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and practical approaches to cross-border dispute resolution. Prominent speakers, including Ms Cherly Yu (Hong Kong solicitor with PRC and New York qualification), Ms Chen Xialin (PRC lawyer), and Mr. Terence Lau (Hong Kong solicitor), shared their extensive experience in cross-border legal services between the two regions. During the training, the Shenzhen lawyers visited the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), gaining deeper insights into the significance of Hong Kong's clean and efficient governance in maintaining its status as an international financial hub. This training not only enhanced the Shenzhen lawyers' understanding of Hong Kong's legal system but also laid a solid foundation for HKU SPACE to provide future professional training in cross-border legal services for lawyers in the Greater Bay Area.
