Press Release

The first Hong Kong Music Therapy Conference 2018 was held at HKU SPACE Po Leung Kuk Stanley Ho Community College on 3 – 6 August. Top-notched scholars in music therapy from Australia, the US and UK were invited to be keynote speakers.

The Conference, themed “Music. Diversity. Healthcare”, was organised by the Hong Kong Music Therapy Association and co-organised by HKU SPACE and The University of Melbourne. The four-day conference included a blend of keynote presentations and workshops delivered by internationally and locally renowned music therapists, which allowed participants to understand the latest music therapy approaches and interventions. The School was honoured to have our part-time teachers in music therapy spoken for the Conference. Professor William Lee, Director of HKU SPACE said, “Though Europe and North America have recognised music therapy a form of professional therapy, acceptance of music therapy in Hong Kong, however, is still at its development stage. There lies the importance of this first Music Therapy Conference held in Hong Kong.”

With a visionary and pioneering spirit, HKU SPACE launched the first Postgraduate Diploma in Music Therapy in Hong Kong in 2008. The programme offered a stepping stone for those who want to study further in this field and become a certified music therapist. Graduates of this programme can be exempted for the first semester of Master of Music Therapy offered by The University of Melbourne in collaboration with HKU SPACE.
