The School was awarded the "e-brand Awards 2025 – Best AI Education Institution" by e-zone, a digital online media under the Hong Kong Economic Times, for the first time, signifying the School's outstanding achievements and innovative leadership in artificial intelligence (AI) education. The newly established "Best AI Education Institution" award was selected through a rigorous selection process by a professional judging panel and public voting, with the School standing out due to its diverse and high-quality AI courses. The awards ceremony was held on 1 September 2025, and Professor Dorothy Chan, Deputy Director (Administration and Resources), attended on behalf of the School to receive the honour.

This award validates the School's forward-looking educational philosophy—integrating AI into the teaching system to enhance the learning experience through technology. The School sincerely thanks all sectors of society for their support over the years, and extends its greetings to all faculty and staff, as this achievement embodies the wisdom and innovative practices of all employees. In the future, the School will continue to lead the development of AI-driven continuing education, setting a benchmark for institutions worldwide.

Embracing Technology into Development Plan

The world is being swept by the wave of AI, and all industries are rapidly transforming under the impetus of AI. With over 68 years of professional teaching experience, the School keenly responds to market demands by taking the lead in integrating AI into its curriculum. It has now launched approximately 60 interdisciplinary AI courses, covering various fields such as finance, healthcare, talent management, law, sports, and marketing, actively cultivating a new generation of technology talent. As a leader in continuing education in Hong Kong, HKU SPACE not only keeps pace with the pulse of social development but also provides students with more practical opportunities to master core digital transformation skills through professional resources such as the "AI Hub” and the "Island South Innovation Hub".

In response to the rapid development of generative AI and its profound impact on the education sector, the School has included "Embracing Technology: Driving an Innovative Culture" as a key strategic direction for 2025-2030, leveraging intelligent technology to improve teaching and learning effectiveness, streamline operational processes, and enhance data analytics to elevate educational quality.

Three Key Areas for Cultivating AI Professionals

HKU SPACE assists students in mastering technology application skills required in the digital age through innovative curriculum design and teaching methods. In line with the HKSAR Government's designation of AI as a key industry, the School's curriculum closely follows policy and market trends, primarily covering the following three major areas:

Finance and Investment

Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau noted that it would adopt a dual-track approach to promote development of AI adoption by the financial services sector, while at the same time addressing the potential challenges, such as cybersecurity and data privacy. In line with the Government's policy direction, the School offers a number of AI courses for the financial services sector, including Executive Certificate in Applied AI and Predictive Analytics for Business, Executive Certificate in AI and Deep Learning in Quantitative Finance, and Certificate for Module (Generative AI, DeFi and Risk Governance).

In investment and wealth management, AI-powered algorithms optimise investment strategies, diversification and portfolio management. Courses such as the Postgraduate Diploma in Investment Management and Financial Intelligence and the Executive Certificate in Big Data, AI and Investing prepare students to become the new elites in the industry.

Office administration and human resources

Employees are a company's most valuable asset. AI analysis of staff data assists HR departments in identifying potential candidates for new roles, saving time and resources in recruitment and training, thereby improving work efficiency. AI tools also help pinpoint reasons for staff turnover, enabling tailored solutions.

The School provides the Certificate for Module (The Use of Generative AI in Office Administration), Certificate for Module (Big Data and AI for HR Analytics) and Certificate for Module (Principles of Artificial Intelligence and HR Analytics for Workforce Improvement) for employees to enhance their skills and boost productivity through AI tools.

Healthcare

AI is bringing healthcare into a new era. By using AI tools, healthcare professionals can analyse patients' physiological data, leading to more precise diagnoses and the creation of intelligent care plans that facilitate faster recovery.

Courses such as the Certificates for Module in Essential AI Competencies for Healthcare Professionals, Hospital Intelligence, and Applied Big Data in Digital Healthcare provide professionals with the necessary conceptual, theoretical, and practical knowledge of AI in healthcare, equipping them with the ability to contribute to the medical field.

Courses reaching across industries

In addition to the above courses, the School is actively broadening its AI programmes to fields such as law, sports, and marketing, which include courses such as Generative AI and Law (Online), Certificate for Module in Sports Innovation and Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Marketing, and Applied ESG and Intelligent Technologies.

Establishment of AI Hub and Innovation Hub

The School has been committed to investing in and utilising advanced technology and existing learning resources to promote innovative and creative teaching methods, and to apply generative AI to teaching to enhance learning outcomes. The "AI Hub", established in January 2024, provides cutting-edge AI technology and data analytics platforms to assist all teachers, part-time and full-time students in learning, experiencing, and innovating using AI. The platform integrates the latest AI tools such as ChatGPT, generative AI, and big data analytics into one website for use by all teachers and students at the School.

In addition, the Island South Pokfulam campus has been transformed into an "Innovation Hub" to support disciplines such as aviation, e-sports, geotechnical science, and biomedical science. The special classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, which can effectively enhance the effectiveness of learning and teaching. Aeronautical classrooms include Aircraft Mock-up Cabin & Flight Simulator Lab, Aircraft Maintenance Laboratory, etc., allowing students to experience professional and realistic flight operations. Additionally, the establishment of an eSports Mock-up Stadium, Geotechnical Laboratory, CAVE Laboratory, etc., fully demonstrates the School's commitment to innovative teaching.

Embracing Technology and Cultivating Industry Elites

HKU SPACE adopts "Embracing Technology, Driving an Innovative Culture" as its key strategy, establishing a comprehensive training, support, and resource platform for AI learning ecology. From working professionals to industry leaders, all can master AI technology through flexible courses to meet the challenges of the digital era. Looking ahead, the School will closely follow technological developments, pay attention to the far-reaching impact of new technologies on teaching, learning, and the workplace, and continue to launch practical courses to train professionals and consolidate Hong Kong's position as an international innovation hub.
