The programme aims to describe the latest services and products in the sports technology market and provide students with advanced knowledge of the innovation process and management within the sports industry.
Students should develop their understanding of the concept of Artificial Intelligence, and how it could be applied to the sports industry. In this programme, students should also gain an insight of the traditional and latest revenue models that are applicable in the sports industry.
Duration of Study
Students can complete the programme in 3 months (Part-time). Classes will be conducted on weekday evenings.
Teaching Mode
The medium of instruction is English.
Programme Intended Learning Outcome
On completion of the programme, students should be able to
1. evaluate the essential revenue models and streams within the sports industry;
2. analyse the latest innovative services and products within the sports industry;
3. examine the key stages of the innovative process within the sports industry;
4. apply the concept of Artificial Intelligence in the sports industry.

Outlook of the sports market/industry
- Revenue models in the sports industry (sponsorship, media rights, merchandising and others).
Overview of the current sports innovation trends (sport analytics, wearables in sports, smart stadiums, blockchains in sport)
Overview of the sports innovation process
- Innovation process stages
Commercial and legal implications of the sports innovation (Legal structure of the sports innovation companies; Intellectual Property in Sports).
AI Applications in the Sports Industry
- AI Referee
- Player performance
- Match predictions
AI Concepts, terminology, application areas, and ethical aspects Decision Trees
Introduction to Machine Learning (ML)

Assessment
Assessment include individual written assignment.
Award
To complete the programme, students are required to achieve 70% attendance of the programme and pass all the assignments. Upon successful completion, students will be awarded the Certificate for Module (Sports Innovation and Artificial Intelligence) within the HKU system through HKU SPACE.

If the degree or equivalent qualification is from an institution where the language of teaching and assessment is not English, applicants shall provide evidence of English proficiency, such as:
- an overall band of 6.0 or above with no sub scores lower than 5.5 in the IELTS; or
- a score of 550 or above in the paper-based TOEFL, or a score of 213 or above in the computer-based TOEFL, or a score of 80 or above in the internet-based TOEFL; or
- HKALE Use of English at Grade E or above; or
- HKDSE Examination English Language at Level 3 or above; or
- equivalent qualifications.
Applicants with other qualifications will be considered on individual merit.
