Chief Data Scientist, Strategic Data Science Limited

Dr. Lam Yat-fai is the Chief Data Scientist of Strategic Data Science Limited and the Adjunct Professor of Finance, City University of Hong Kong.  He graduated from City University of Hong Kong with a Doctor of Business Administration degree and holds the CFA, CAIA, CAMS, CFE, FRM, PRM, MCSE and MCNE professional designations, specializing in the areas of machine learning, cryptocurrencies and anti-money laundering.  Before becoming a financial technologist, Dr. LAM worked for bank regulator, international bank and sovereign wealth fund.

 

Mr. Petrus Chan 

Mr Petrus Chan is a trained professional accountant from the big four accounting firm and he possesses a MBA degree from Oklahoma City University, USA majoring in International Commerce and Business. With over 30 years of experience working in the banking industry in Hong Kong and Australia with medium size financial institutions as well as large international banking group, he has all rounded and hands on experience in different areas of financial control, risk management as well as regulatory compliance of banks. He was the Head of Regulatory Compliance of Retail Banking and Wealth Management Asia Pacific of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd.

 

Mr. Michael Li

Mr. Michael Li is an qualified accountant and company secretary. He worked for different accounting firms before moving to the financial compliance industry in 2003. Since then, Michael serves as the compliance officer for multinational financial institutions in different jurisdictions. He has vast experience in compliance set up and internal control, risk management and corporate governance. Currently Michael is the Head of Compliance of a Japanese financial institution and focusing on regulatory compliance, risk management, corporate governance and global compliance policies in asset management.  He also sits in the examination board of the Hong Kong Securities Institute and the editorial board of the Journal of Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries.

 

 

Programme Details

The Executive Certificate in Finance and Compliance programme aims to equip students with latest knowledge in compliance issues for professionals working in asset management companies and banking institutions. It focuses on satisfying the regulatory and compliance requirements as determined by the legal framework in Hong Kong as well as teaching state-of-the-art practices in managing key risks faced by bank and asset management companies.

On completion of the programme, students should be able to:

  1. Apply the theories of the role of financial regulation and compliance and adopt the best practices in the financial services sector;
  2. Evaluate how the regulatory framework and the regulatory bodies affect the compliance requirements of banks and asset management companies in Hong Kong;
  3. Assess the risks involved in the commercial banking industry and apply the knowledge, skills and the best practices to establish an effective control system to minimize these risks; and
  4. Apply the theories of regulatory framework to establish procedures and systems that will satisfy the compliance requirements of the relevant regulatory bodies in Hong Kong.

Assessment Criteria

Each module will be assessed by one individual written assignment. All assessments will be in English.

Attendance Requirement

Student are required to achieve at least 70% in attendance for each module to complete the whole programme.

Entry Requirements

Applicants shall:

(a)    hold a bachelor’s degree awarded by a recognized university or equivalent; or

(b)   hold an Associate Degree/ a Higher Diploma or equivalent, and have at least 2 years of work experience; or

(c)    hold relevant professional qualifications.

Applicants with other qualifications and substantial senior level work experience will be considered on individual merits.

Enrolment Method

1. Complete the application form.

2. Submit the application form with the following documents:

(a) CERTIFIED TRUE COPIES of all relevant academic and/or professional qualifications (please also bring along the originals of these documents for certification at HKU SPACE enrollment center);

(b) copy of HKID card / passport and visa (if applicable); and

(c) a non-refundable application fee of HK$150 by credit card / by crossed cheque made payable to “HKU SPACE”.

 

The complete set of application forms with all relevant supporting documents may be submitted in person to any HKU SPACE enrollment centers.

Applicants may also pay the course / application fee by VISA or Master Card including "HKUSPACE Master Card" at any HKUSPACE enrolment Centre.

Notes

  1. Fees paid are not refundable except under very exceptional circumstances, subject to the School's discretion.
  2. In addition to the published fees, there may be additional costs associated with individual programmes. Please refer to the relevant course brochures or direct any enquiries of the relevant subject area for details.
  3. Fees and places on courses cannot be transferred from one applicant to another. Once accepted onto a course, the student may not change to another course without approval from HKU SPACE. A processing fee of $120 will be levied on approved transfers.
  4. Receipts will be issued for fees paid but HKU SPACE will not be responsible for any loss of receipt sent by mail.
  5. For additional copies of receipts, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope with a completed form and a crossed cheque for $30 per copy made payable to "HKU SPACE". Such copies will normally only be issued at the end of a course.
  6. Classes are expected to be held at HKU SPACE learning centers. The health and safety of our students is our top priority. If the situation in Hong Kong requires, HKU SPACE reserves the right to move some classes to other locations, including online teaching platforms.
