Our main languages are Spanish, French, German and Italian, but we do also offer courses in other languages such as Arabic, Greek, Latin, Polish, Portuguese and Russian.

This April we are offering Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic short courses of just 30 hours, more casual and non-exam based, such as courses for beginners, courses in weekday evenings or during the weekends.

Our teachers are passionate and committed to the language-learning and will guide you through your journey at HKU SPACE!

This course is for complete beginners. It aims to be a simple introduction giving participants a taste for the Spanish language. There will be plenty of opportunities to listen and speak the language whilst learning the basics of Spanish pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. The classroom atmosphere will be relaxed and supportive with practise is small groups using the latest interactive methodology. Topics include greetings, numbers, countries, nationalities, languages, talking about one's job, describing another person, asking and answering questions.

This course is designed for complete beginners. The course will give students a first taste of the language, focusing on several skills (oral communication, listening and basic grammar). Students will practise the language in an interactive class and will learn a little about the culture of Portuguese-speaking countries.

This course continues on from Beginners´ Portuguese. It uses the latest communicative methodology, giving participants plenty of opportunities to listen and speak the language whilst improving grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation at the same time. Topics include directions around town, transport, talking about food, time, daily routines and family. The students will keep practising the language in an interactive class environment, and at the same time will learn about the culture of the Portuguese-speaking world (with continuous references to Brazil, Macao and other ex-Portuguese colonies). There will be a relaxed and supportive learning environment and the course is not exam-based.

This course continues on from the previous series Beginners' Portuguese 1, 2, 3 and 4. It is designed for students who already possess a basic knowledge of Portuguese (written and spoken) and want to continue their learning. Students will begin an A.2.1 level from the CEFR practicing the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. They will learn to use the verb tenses for the future and simple past (“preterito perfeito”). They will learn to describe events in the past, go shopping, access services such as at the post office and the bank, request and give directions, give commands, etc.

This course is designed to cater for complete beginners of Arabic. The course will offer students a first taste of the language, with a focus on oral communication and basic grammar. The students will practise the language in an interactive way, whilst at the same time learning a little about the culture of the Arabic-speaking world. The course is not exam-based.

This course continues on from Beginners' Arabic 2, so is designed for beginners who already possess a basic knowledge of classic Arabic (written and spoken) and want to continue their learning. Students will continue to learn more aspects of Arab culture, the present tense with different verb patterns, dual form, infinitive verb forms, object pronouns, adverbs and nominal and verbal sentences, etc. There will be a relaxed and supportive learning environment and the course is not exam-based.

This course continues on from our series Beginners' Arabic and Intermediate’s Arabic 1.  It is designed for students who already possess a basic knowledge of modern standard Arabic (written and spoken) and wish to continue their learning. Students will learn more aspects of Arab culture and will practice the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. They will study the future tense and its negation, verb-subject agreement, accusative nouns, sentence complements "Inna" and "Anna", negation in past tense with "Lam", jussive and subjunctive verbs and roots and patterns. In addition, they will have a lot of practice with listening, conversation, and essay writing. There will be a relaxed and supportive learning environment and the course is not exam-based.
