OLQE Registration

🪶Registration for OLQE 2025/2026

The registration date for OLQE 2025 has already passed. Candidates who submitted their applications in March 2025 will be notified by the Law Society around July 2025 regarding their eligibility to sit for the examination, as well as the outcome of any applications for exemption from individual Heads.

The registration date for OLQE 2026 has not yet been announced by the Law Society, but it is likely to fall in February or March 2026. Prospective candidates are strongly advised to monitor updates on the Law Society’s website.

🪶Registration Fees for OLQE 2025/2026

According to the latest OLQE Information Package issued by the Law Society, the application fee for the OLQE is approximately HKD $6,600. The examination fee for the first subject is around HKD $11,000, with an additional fee of HKD $2,200 for each subsequent subject. These fees are charged directly by, and must be paid to, the Law Society.

Lawyers with 5+ years of Post Qualification Experience may apply for exemption from certain OLQE Heads (subject to approval by the Law Society). Exemption results are typically announced by the Law Society in July.

Candidates who have enrolled in our training for specific Heads and subsequently receive an exemption may apply for a refund prior to the commencement of the training of the particular head.

Given that it often takes two or more years for a candidate to pass all the Heads, it is strongly advised that candidates who aim to qualify in Hong Kong in the year they become eligible to register for the OLQE begin their study and preparation early. For instance, a candidate from a civil law jurisdiction who will have completed five years of legal practice in her home jurisdiction by the end of 2025 should consider beginning her preparation in 2025 to maximize her chances of qualifying in Hong Kong by 2026 or shortly thereafter.
