Dr Tong Kin-Woon

Dr Tong Kin-Woon, PhD in Ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University, is a connoisseur in Chinese culture ranging from ancient oracle bones to music instruments and the art of tea. His life-long study of Guqin, from performance to craftsmanship, owes to mentorship under legendary masters starting with the late guru Jao Tsung-I. An author of four books and numerous theses, Dr Tong taught at CUHK, the University of Michigan, and was the first head of Chinese music at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

Hong Kong Guqin veteran Dr Tong Kin Woon will take the class to revisit the artistic realm embodied in the ancient zither, and demonstrate how an understanding of the shape, sound and rhyme of Guqin could inspire good health.
