The Covid-19 has fueled the integration of art and technology in breath and depth from the creation of digital art to appreciation of art pieces at home. While auction and dealing of artworks have also moved to online platforms, the recent sale of an NFT artwork for US$69 million has wowed the world. NFT has instantly become a buzzword for the art industry. In fact, technology not only creates more possibilities for artists, it also brings tremendous opportunities for the art industry including the art market. For Hong Kong, despite the challenges faced by the territory in the past two years, Hong Kong has now overtaken London as the second-biggest contemporary art auction market in the world after New York.  ArtTech is therefore a blue ocean that poses great potential for Hong Kong to thrive to flourish and thrive in the global art scene.

This year, we have seen collaborations among art auction markets, while some are between cities, some are among art galleries across continents. Such kind of dynamic collaborations enable art dealers to explore brand new market and connect to new buyers. In some circumstances, art dealers can even explore brand new business models.  In this talk, we will explore the development of ArtTech in Hong Kong from the perspective of government funding and talent development. We will also discuss the blockchain technology - NFT and its impact on the art market.
